Flood Relief for Pakistan

Hi, my name is Tehmina, and I am a Pakistani-American fashion designer and founder of the apparel and lifestyle brand -- Istani. I work closely with artisans in Pakistan to source my textiles and am learning firsthand from my contacts there the level of devastation in the country.

Pakistan is undergoing a climate catastrophe. After record-high temperatures in June, flash floods in July and August triggered by unprecedented monsoon rains across much of Pakistan have resulted in displacement and damage across the country. The floods killed 1,003 people and 340 children, with the death toll rising.

The floods have displaced over a million people, destroyed livelihoods, and created a food crisis in the country. Overall, 33 million people in Pakistan have been affected -- 1 in 6 Pakistanis.

Over 218,000 houses have been destroyed. Livelihoods are also heavily impacted – more than 793,900 livestock – a critical source of sustenance and livelihoods for many families – have died. Around 2 million acres of crops and orchards have been impacted. Damage to infrastructure has further worsened the humanitarian situation, destroying over 3,000 km of roads and 145 bridges creating obstacles to safe evacuations or access to markets or healthcare.

We are raising 10,000USD to donate directly to impacted communities in Sindh. We are working with trusted local leaders and grassroots organizations to distribute food, housing, and shelter. We anticipate that the crisis will continue even after the rains stop as standing water may give rise to waterborne diseases. There is a need for immediate recovery and ongoing support for rebuilding efforts.
