Help the Drammeh Family to Build a Future

Zes jaar geleden, tijdens onze vakantie in Gambia, ontmoetten Marja en ik (Pieter Jan) Modoulamin Drammeh. Hij was onze taxichauffeur en heeft ons alle mooie plekjes daar laten zien. We ontmoetten zijn familie en werden zelfs uitgenodigd voor een diner.
Zoals de meesten van jullie weten, is de situatie in Afrika ingewikkeld. De toegang tot voedsel, gezondheid en de dagelijkse vraag naar veiligheid vormen grote problemen. Tijdens onze reis in Gambia waren we daar getuige van, maar we werden bijzonder aangesproken door de situatie van Moudoulamin, die elke dag moet vechten om zijn hele familie te onderhouden.
Modoulamin werd het hoofd van het gezin toen zijn vader op jonge leeftijd overleed. Het gezin bestaat uit zijn moeder, zijn drie broers, twee zussen en zijn neef. Modoulamin heeft geen vaste baan en geen auto om toeristen rond te rijden. Het is een zware taak voor hem om zijn gezin in deze omstandigheden te onderhouden. We konden niet gewoon achterover leunen en toekijken. Daarom zijn we begonnen hem regelmatig geld te sturen om eten en wat kleding te kopen.
Dankzij mijn ervaring als groenteteler gaf ik hem zelfs tips en advies over hoe hij groenten kon kweken voor eigen gebruik. We besloten hem te voorzien van zaden.
Om deze redenen zou het voor Modoulamin van grote waarde zijn om een auto te bezitten. Hij zou dan spullen kunnen vervoeren en toeristen kunnen rondrijden.
Bovendien moeten de kinderen naar school en daar hoort schoolgeld bij. Vorig jaar hebben we het schoolgeld voor drie kinderen zelf betaald. Modoulamin stuurde ons de originele kwitantie waaruit bleek dat het schoolgeld was betaald. Zijn broer heeft de lagere school afgemaakt en heeft nu de mogelijkheid om naar de universiteit te gaan. Dankzij deze opleiding zou hij een goede baan kunnen vinden om ook het gezin te onderhouden, samen met Modoulamin. Daarvoor moet echter ook een groot bedrag aan collegegeld worden betaald en Modoulamin kan deze kosten niet alleen opbrengen.
Op dit moment kunnen wij het ons niet meer veroorloven om Modoulamin en zijn gezin alleen financieel te helpen. Daarom zijn wij op zoek naar hulp en willen wij met uw bijdragen proberen om:
-Het gezin te voorzien van voedsel en kleding;
-De kinderen naar school en de universiteit te sturen, zodat zij een goede toekomst hebben
-Modoulamin in staat te stellen een auto te kopen, zodat hij toeristen kan rondrijden en spullen kan vervoeren.
De familie Drammeh zal u eeuwig dankbaar zijn voor uw hulp.

Six years ago, during our holidays in Gambia, Marja and I (Pieter Jan) met Modoulamin Drammeh. He was our taxi driver and showed us all the beautiful places there. We met his family and were even invited for dinner.
As most of you know, the situation in Africa is complicated. The access to food, health and the daily question of security are major issues. During our trip in Gambia we witnessed that, but we were particularly appealed by the situation of Moudoulamin, that has to fight everyday to sustain his whole family.
Modoulamin became the head of the family when his father died at a young age. The family consists of his mother, his three brothers, two sisters and his nephew. Modoulamin doesn’t have a regular job and no car to drive tourists around. It is a hard task for him to support his family in these conditions. We couldn’t just sit back and watch. Therefore, we started sending him money regularly to buy food and some clothes.
Thanks to my experience as a vegetable grower, I even gave him tips and advice on how to grow vegetables for his own use. We decided to supply him with seeds.
For these reasons it would be of great value for Modoulamin to own a car. He then would be able to transport goods and drive tourists around.
Besides, the children have to go to school, which includes several school fees. Last year, we paid the fees for three children ourselves. Modoulamin sent us the original receipt showing these fees had been paid. His brother finished primary school and has now the capacity to go to university. Thanks to this education, he could find a good job in order to also support the family, together with Modoulamin. However, for that to happen a large amount of fees have also to be paid and Modoulamin cannot afford these costs by himself.
At this point we can no longer afford to financially help Modoulamin and his family by ourselves. That is why we are looking for help and want to try, with your contributions, to:
-Provide the family with food and clothing;
-Send the children to school and university so that they can have a future
-Enable Modoulamin to buy a car in order to be able to drive tourists around town and transport goods
