If you're a healthcare worker or affiliate at a hospital/clinic in need of N95* masks, please click here to submit a request.

* UPDATE: Due to changes in local hospitals' policies surrounding the use of donated face masks, our team has decided to purchase N95 instead of KN95 masks.

Help us donate one mask at a time to Houston healthcare workers!

We're currently looking to get more masks to hospitals and healthcare workers serving our city of Houston. For just around $1.70, we can get 1 KN95 mask (an N95-equivalent mask authorized by the FDA for use during times of emergency shortages) to a Houston healthcare worker facing the COVID-19 epidemic. Show your love and support for our healthcare workers by donating 1 mask at a time. As you can tell, every single dollar counts!

The sooner we reach our campaign goal, the sooner we can get these masks directly into the hands of our healthcare workers.  Donate 1 mask, 10 masks, or 100 masks!

Our Campaign Goals

1. Get more masks to our healthcare workers - We’re connecting with local hospitals and healthcare workers to assess their need for masks, and we’re asking you to help donate the necessary funds to purchase masks from overseas suppliers.

2. Ensure safety and quality standards are met - We know that subpar quality masks could cost lives. We only work with suppliers who we trust based on our personal connections, and we verify the certifications of the masks.

3. Practice financial transparency and accountability - 100% of your donations will go directly towards masks, shipping costs, and associated fees. By working closely with our suppliers, we’re able to eliminate many of the processing costs.

4. Keep our campaign small-scale yet effective - We’ll strive to maintain the personal nature of our grassroots initiative, and we’ll go to the extra mile to get the masks directly into the hands of healthcare workers.

Our Committed Team

We’re a small team of concerned Houston residents taking action in order to help local healthcare workers who are facing the COVID-19 epidemic.  You may click on our names to view our LinkedIn profiles.

Tiffaney Tran  is a Houston native and a medical student at Baylor College of Medicine. She’ll be coordinating the overall initiative, and she’ll be keeping track of this GoFundMe campaign, answering your questions, and posting updates as we make progress.

Yvette Wu  works in the supply chain team of a Fortune 500 company. She’ll be applying everything she knows about quality control and supply chain logistics to make sure our mask supplies meet safety and quality standards while saving costs. Once the masks arrive in Houston, she’ll then make sure the masks get right where they need to be. She’s also a concerned doctor’s wife.

Dr. Jonathan Huang  is a board-certified physician and also a Houston native. He’s already in touch with local hospitals and healthcare workers who are expressing a need for more masks. He’ll be in charge of making sure the masks get to those who need them most.

For financial transparency,  Jonathan will be making withdrawals into his personal bank account and working with the team to transfer the money directly to those supplying the masks to us. We're also accepting donations via Venmo (@tiffaneytran) at this time.

FAQs

1. What’s a KN95 mask? How does it compare to the N95 mask?

Manufactured in China and regulated by the Chinese government, KN95 masks are FDA-authorized alternatives to N95 masks, which are in critically low supply around the world. Like N95 masks,  KN95 masks filter ≥95% of airborne particles. Based on testing performed by 3M (the U.S. company that manufactures N95 masks), KN95 masks are nearly identical in performance to N95 masks with slight differences in their ability to withstand pressure changes when breathing. On Friday, April 3rd, the FDA issued an authorization for the emergency use of KN95 masks by healthcare workers fighting COVID-19.

2. How do you know your sources are legitimate?

We’re working with an established business company that has helped import masks to their region of the country since the start of this crisis. They're taking the lead in making sure that the masks we receive are compliant with standards set by the FDA. In addition, each box we receive from our supplier comes with certifications and test results for quality control.

3. Where are you purchasing these masks from?

We’ll be purchasing KN95 masks from our main supplier located in Guangzhou, Guangdong, China. There may be other options for suppliers and masks that open up down the line. We’ll keep you updated as things develop.

4. How long does it take between payment to shipment arrival?

4-5 business days

Update (4/13/2020): 5-7 business days due to more stringent PPE inspections in China

5. How do you determine who will receive the masks you purchased?

We wish to help the hospitals and healthcare workers in our city who are in most need. Up to now, we’ve been in contact with administrative staff and healthcare workers at local hospitals to assess actual needs on the ground. This will help us prioritize where we ultimately should send each mask. If you’re a Houston healthcare worker in a hospital and your team is in need of masks, please fill out this form.

6. How many masks does it take to safely care for one COVID-19 patient?

6+ masks each day

7. Can I get a tax receipt for my donation?

We’re not a 501c(3) organization, so we can’t provide receipts for tax deductions.

8. Where can I learn more about medical masks?

We also want to acknowledge Sonia & Louise, the founders of the original "1 mask at a time " initiative (as featured on ABC News), for helping us get our campaign off the ground.

Thank you all so much for your support!
