Help Rhonda Fight Cancer

Donation protected
Just after Christmas and before the end of the worst year in history we all knew as 2020, my mom, Rhonda, was diagnosed with lung cancer that had already metastasized to her bones. She was admitted to the hospital because of excruciating pain. When I was 16 she also had similar pain and it ended up being a slipped disc in her back. She had no symptoms of lung cancer and we were utterly unprepared for the diagnosis. I, along with every other person on the planet, was hoping for much happier and healthier 2021. Unfortunately, before we could even say goodbye to 2020, we were already looking at an even worse 2021 as a family.

She has a very long and hard battle in front of her, but she's prepared for the fight.

Unfortunately, the lesions on her bones are causing her a great deal of pain and she cannot walk or move around like she used to. She also needs support getting in and out of bed in in and out of a chair. She cannot enjoy the things she used to such as swimming with her only grandchild, seven year old Madison. The blow feels even harsher since she and my father, John, just moved to Florida to be closer to Madison and watch her grow up.

Her first appointment with the oncologist is January 15th, and we will have a clearer picture of what we can expect. The doctor in the hospital was optimistic because she is otherwise healthy and not disqualified from any type of treatments because of preexisting health conditions. At this point it looks like she will be receiving her care at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida and it will be some type of combination of chemotherapy, radiation, and immune therapy.

Thankfully, she does have health insurance, but it will not cover all the costs, including potential home health she needs for basic self care. The matter is further complicated because of a delay in her insurance. She was insured as of January 1st, 2021 as a dependent on her husband's insurance, but because the company he works for changed insurance agencies on the first of the year, there's a delay in getting her in the system. This is putting an unnecessary and dangerous delay in her care unless we can pay cash up front for treatment. Mayo clinic is asking for 75,000 dollars and this is just a deposit. There's no way of knowing how long the delay in insurance will last.

Her prognosis is better than expected, but she must start treatment as soon as possible.

Anything you can give would be greatly appreciated.

Please keep her and our family in your prayers as we navigate this emotional time. Every small donation will help her immensely.
