Mitzie's Brain Surgery Fund

Alright, ya'll. They say the third time's the charm, right?

For those of you who don't know, several years ago we learned that my mother was leaking spinal fluid out of a hole in her sinuses. What we thought were chronic sinus infections was actually something much more serious. There was a solution, however, and she saw a surgeon and the hole was grafted closed, and we assumed the issue was resolved.

Fast forward a little bit, the pain and the headaches came back, and low and behold the hole had reopened. So, she went in for surgery number two, and once again everything was fine.

And now we're here. She's leaking spinal fluid again, for the third time. We've learned that the reason this keeps happening is because, for reasons unknown to medicine, she has higher pressure in her head than most people, and this pressure is what keeps tearing the graft open. So, in order for her to have a permanent solution, she needs brain surgery. Actual, real life brain surgery.

The doctors need to drill a hole in her skull and place a shunt in her brain to help relieve the pressure. The shunt will be attatched to a pressure valve that will connect to a tube that will run down her body to her abdomen. When the pressure gets to be too much, instead of breaking through the skin graft in her sinuses, the spinal fluid will travel through the tube and down into her abdomen to be released as waste.

As you can imagine, this is an incredibly invasive and expensive surgery. Not only will she have to pay for the surgery, she will also have to worry about several weeks of missed work, as well as a trip up to Pittsburg to see another specialist in preparation for the surgery.

If she does not get this procedure done, the hole in the skin graft will continue to widen. This will eventually lead to debilitating pain, and if left untreated, it could kill her.

Ya'll we need help. There's not enough in the savings account, but we can't just not get it done. This money will help us pay for the surgery, as well as provide relief for the weeks of work my mom is bound to miss while she recovers. Even just sharing this so that others can see it is a huge help.

My brother and I only have one parent left. Please, anything at all is appreciated.
