Mitchell's Challenge: Cystinosis & a new Kidney
Donation protected
For his entire life (almost 18 years now!) my delightful nephew, Mitchell, has been living with Cystinosis, a rare genetic disease. The disease is relentless in its attack, primarily destroying kidney function. For the last few months, Mitchell has been receiving dialysis three times a week.
After months and months of working through the details, a kidney transplant has been scheduled for Tuesday, December 22nd! Mitchell's angel, his Aunt Laurie, has volunteered to be the donor. (Eternal gratitude and appreciation for Laurie's kindness and compassion!!)
Laurie will undergo surgery at Johns Hopkins in Maryland to remove one of her kidneys. The donated kidney will be flown by special transport to Emory-Egleston hospital in Atlanta where Mitchell's surgery will be completed.
While insurance may (or may not) cover portions of the cost of the transplant, there will be associated expenses we know will not be covered. Please support Mitchell in this battle by donating. Any amount would be appreciated by Mitchell and his family.
