Miss Zander’s Classroom PPE

Hi there!

So anyone who has been around me for the past few weeks is probably aware of the fear and nervousness about returning to in-person teaching that has become my entire personality recently. I’m trying to take that energy and put it toward something useful, so I’m creating and collecting PPE to try to make my classroom as safe as possible when my students return on August 24th. I am building personal desk shields for every desk, buying extra masks to keep on hand for students who are unmasked or lose/break their masks, buying hand sanitizer, cleaning products and wipes, face shields, gloves, and anything else I can find that will help keep my classroom safe during this pandemic.

I have calculated that I will need 78 feet of PVC pipe, as well as duct tape, shower liners/plexiglass, zip ties, and connectors to make the amount of desk shields I need, which is certainly where the bulk of my financial needs will lie for this undertaking. I love my school, but I work at a public school in North Carolina, so there is no budget for providing teachers with the kind of equipment that I believe will make us feel as safe as possible. I don’t fault my school for this, but I would like to do what I can to make up for that.

Unfortunately, like all NC teachers, I’m working with a tight personal budget. I know these are not the best times financially for many people, but if you feel comfortable and capable of supporting me in this, I would greatly appreciate anything you could give to alleviate some of the financial burden.
