Kona is a beautiful and loving 3 year old Dachshund/Jack Russell Terrier mix who loves being with people. She is truly the sweetest dog and is always able to put a smile on your face with her warm hearted cuddles and licks. It has deeply saddened us all to see such a sweet creature in such pain. Before her diagnosis Kona was unable to get out of bed or eat and was urinating blood as well as vomiting. Immune Mediated Hemolytic Anemia (IMHA) is a deadly condition "where the body's immune system attacks and removes its own red blood cells, thus leading to severe anemia" (for more information on IMHA please visit: http://www.pethealthnetwork.com/dog-health/dog-diseases-conditions-a-z/immune-mediated-hemolytic-anemia-dogs-imha).
Phoi Bui is a full time college student with the goal of completing her undergraduate degree and going on to medical school. She is someone who always seeks to help others which is not only exemplified by her aspirations to become a doctor but also through her various extracurricular activities including volunteering at UNC hospitals as well as her local church. As if college and applying to medical school was not stressful enough, Phoi is beginning her Senior year having to take care of her loving dog Kona, who was just diagnosed with Immune Mediated Hemolytic Anemia (IMHA). Money is always an issue as a college student but because of Kona's recent medical issues, Phoi is now burdened with $3500 worth of medical bills which is why I am making this fund to help her.
