Sister Battling Cancer-Again
In 2010 my sister Maria was diagnosed with cancer. After she went through treatment, we were all happy and relieved that she pulled through. What we never imagined was that she would once again be stricken with cancer.
In 2013 Maria was diagnosed with brain and lung cancer. After going through surgery to remove the tumor in her brain, she went through radiation and has been undergoing chemo for over a year. This has taken a financial toll on Maria and her family. She has not been able to work since she started chemotherapy, and her medical bills are piling up. She lost her medical coverage because she is no longer working, and she has to pay for Cobra insurance coverage, which amounts to over $500 per month. Even with paying for Cobra insurance, she is left with a large amount of out-of-pocket medical expenses. She researched Obamacare insurance and learned that the monthly premium would be more than Cobra because she has a pre-existing condition!!
Maria and her family are struggling to make ends meet. My brother-in-law and my niece take Maria to her chemo treatments and doctors’ visits. They also help with household chores. Because of the ongoing chemo, Maria cannot go back to work. Throughout her battle with cancer, she continues to be in good spirits. As difficult as this has been on her, she always manages to smile. Her faith remains strong and she believes that she will beat cancer again. But she worries about the mounting bills. Please help us help Maria by relieving the added stress of the bills.
