Miracle Fishing. A kidnap & ransom documentary

A Message from Director Miles Hargrove,

In 1994, my Dad was kidnapped outside our home in Cali, Colombia by the FARC, the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia. In an instant, my Mom, brother and I found ourselves in the midst of a Colombian epidemic - the kidnap and ransom trade. Our only hope was to negotiate directly with the guerrillas’  but we had no idea how to embark on the journey ahead.


We became the "kidnapped" family. To cope with the long and difficult negotiations and to distract me from our reality, I kept a Video8 diary of the events that unfolded. Twenty-five years later, I have finally turned this footage into a documentary that chronicles my family’s personal experience.

MIRACLE FISHING is the story of a group of ordinary people who joined together to overcome relentless hurdles and achieve the impossible. It is about my family and our close circle of friends - the way we handled adversity, the way we filled endless hours of waiting, and the unexpected way we reacted to news, both good and bad.


The finish line for my documentary is in sight, but we need the final funds to get the film ready for its world premiere in 2020. The edit is complete, we just need the sound mix, color, music and graphics. We have talented people ready to deliver these elements, but we don't want to ask any creative to work for free. Their trade deserves pay and recognition.

This has been true independent filmmaking - over 90% of the film to date has been self-financed with love and sweat equity. If you can help us reach our goal it would cap off this journey in the way it deserves - with a sense of togetherness, solidarity and the overwhelming power of humanity.
