TA-TA TATAS: Top Surgery Fundraiser

Donation protected

Hey Friends!

(I'm going to try to keep this brief and informative and at least halfway entertaining)

Hello, I'm Miles Walser, and I've created this page to try and raise some funds for my upcoming top surgery. As a transgender man, having chest reconstruction surgery means taking another step forward in being happy and comfortable in my body.

When I came out as trans 10 years ago (as a freshman in high school) I never thought I'd actually be this close to a body I love and care for. I never thought I'd have the opportunity to write a book of poetry about being trans and transitioning. I never thought I'd be so comfortable and open in my communities.

Listen, apparently 10 years ago I thought life was going to be a wild disappointment. But it isn't! Hooray!

This surgery is another awesome and essential step towards being the person I know I am. Now that I've been on testosterone for 2 years, I feel like my dysphoria around my chest is the last thing holding me back. This surgery will free up all of the brain space I feel I clog obsessing about transitioning and you know, let me boob on with my life.

I'm having surgery with Dr. Fischer in Baltimore, MD on April 7th, 2015. Excited isn't the right word. Relieved isn't either. It's more like I'm watching the faint shadow of what seemed so impossible as it barrels towards me and becomes my reality. Epic, amiright?

SO WAIT THAT'S COOL AND ALL BUT WHY ARE YOU ASKING FOR MONEY?

I've been working hard and saving hard, and now I am asking for a little help from my community. This fundraiser is only to cover part of the cost of surgery, the expenses associated with recovering (hotel, travel, food, time off work, medication, etc). The rest I will have saved from working as a barista and babysitter, as well as some miscellaneous poetry shows I've done recently.

The other reason I've set this up as a crowdsourcing fundraiser is because I've written a brand new chapbook of poems all about transitioning. And this fundraiser is the only time and place where I will be selling them. I'm proud of these poems and I want to share them with you, and I also want to be extremely honest about where the money is going. (It's going to surgery, you guys. And if I'm being super honest maybe a donut after surgery to help me forget about the nasty drains that will be attached to me whilst recovering.)

I've recorded a new CD with poems about transitioning. This fundraiser will be the only place where you can get ahold of that.

In addition, I've got my first full-length collection of poetry, What the Night Demands (on Write Bloody Press) and some sweet other perks donated by some dope people (cough megan falley cough Andrea Gibson cough)!

Here is a sample of the sort of work you can expect from the chapbook/CD

If you'd like to help but can't afford to contribute, please spread the word! Consider sharing this page if you think it might be of interest to your friends/followers/fans. I would appreciate it!

Thank you so much for reading and for donating. No contribution is too small, and my gratitude for you all is endless.

Tata-d for now,

Miles
