Mike Oliver worked for Lester's Automotive , Towing and Recovery for the past 3 years in Jessieville as Lead Wrecker Driver. He worked for the City of Hot Springs Fleet Services for 12 years. He was also a Certified Vol. Firefighter and Certified EMR . He has recently been diagnosed with Bone Cancer .
He had Rhabdomyosarcoma,or RMS when he was 16 on the same leg where the entire muscle area of his hip was removed and left him with a permanent limp . RMS is an aggressive and highly malignant form of cancer that develops from skeletal (striated) muscle cells that have failed to fully differentiate. The Doctor at Genesis Cancer Center in Hot Springs told him that this new cancer could represent a new primary sarcoma,metastatic lesion or metastatic lesion from a different malignancy. He has been referred to UAMS Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute to see the Ortho Surgeon Who specializes this type of cancer surgery to find out the next steps for surgery to remove the mass that is located on the left femur. As of right now we know that he will have down time for the surgery, recovery, treatment and physical therapy. Mike is the only one who works in the household as I (his wife) have had 2 cancer surgeries (2014 & 2019) and have been off work due to complications from my illness. He has been without insurance until Feb 24th when I was able to get him help vie DHS but there will be Co-pays to deal with and many more out of pocket expenses.
The money raised will be used to offset out of pocket medical expenses which aren't covered by medicaid (his medicaid requires a copay on all his meds and on some of them will not cover them at all ) , as well as transportation cost as we are currently without a vehicle that runs. And funds are needed to help us pay our utility bills until we can get him through this surgery and try to get him on some temp disability. The hospital has stated they would help with all the paperwork needed to expedite this but it will still take a few months. Every cent of donations will go towards exactly what I've specified above.
