Miguel's Fight against Wegener's

My name is Daniel Cruz. I am originally from Colombia but I now live in Cincinnati. I met Miguel back in 2002 in Michigan, when I had just moved to the US, Miguel was a PhD student at U of M at the time. He and his wife Maria Fernanda were close friends and part of a huge support system for me. I had just arrived to the US and I was young, inexperienced and absolutely on my own. Their friendship meant the world to me, more than friends they were really my family...
Miguel and Maria Fernanda welcomed daughter Mikaela and eventually moved back to Peru, where Miguel is originally from.
Miguel was recently diagnosed with Wegener's disease or Granulomatosis with Polyangiitis. This is a blood vessel disorder that slows blood flow to some of your organs. In response, the affected tissue develops inflammation and affects the way organs work. This is a terrible disease that is fatal if left untreated but treatment could lead to a full recovery.
This disease has affected Miguel's corneas, lungs and kidneys. He has lost his job as a Professor at the University of Lima and consequently has no health insurance and no other way to cover treatment costs. 100% of the funds raised will be used to cover the cost of treatment and caring for Miguel. Depending on how quickly we are able to raise money, I will make regular withdrawals to deposit in Miguel's account. All of the funds raised will be sent to Miguel.
To make matters worse, Maria Fernanda's sister recently passed away from Cancer. She was unable to go to the funeral or see her family because she's caring for Miguel. Miguel and Maria Fernanda are wonderful human beings. It breaks my heart that such good people that had such a huge impact in my life are dealing with this. They opened their heart for me and now I am asking for you to open your heart to them. This is a treatable disease, with your help, we can beat this!
