Miguel Angel Palma's Memorial Fund

My father, Miguel Angel Palma was called to our Heavenly Father on Wednesday, June 24th. He passed away surrounded by his loving family. He was 95 years old.
Growing up as a child, I remember my father’s dedication to his faith. He was actively involved in the Choir Ministry, Small Faith Communities and a member of Cursillos de Cristiandad. We would travel to the surrounding towns of Santa Catarina Mita to bring the Good News of the Gospel to the remote communities. I can recall walking long distances to small villages that did not have any roads or electricity. My father never received any formal education in music and yet he taught himself how to play the guitar and the accordion. He shared this beautiful gift of music to evangelize to others in the ministries that he was so dedicated to. Growing up I had many fond memories witnessing many Small Faith Community gatherings in our home. We didn’t have much but my parents always made sure that we had traditional Guatemalan bread and coffee to offer. I remember the large crowds of people, and wondered to myself where did all of these people come from? Most of the faith community traveled from the nearby towns to gather for praise and worship and bible study. A beautiful testimony to his faith was that with no formal education, he taught himself how to read through bible study. The greatest gift that my father left us was the gift of how to live out our Faith. What a beautiful testimony!
Because his faith was so important to him, my family would like to honor our father’s memory by creating a memorial fund in his name. All of the funds will be donated to our home parish back in Guatemala. Santa Catarina Mita Catholic Church is a small rural church located two and half hours from Guatemala City and is currently in dire need of roof repair. Santa Catarina Mita Catholic Church is where my father witnessed the love of Jesus Christ. This encounter made a profound impact not only on my father but also the Palma family.

Mi papá, Miguel Ángel Palma fue llamado por nuestro Padre Celestial el miércoles, 24 de junio. El falleció rodeado de su familia amada en casa. El tenía 95 años.
Creciendo como niña, recuerdo la dedicación a su fe. El era activo y estaba envuelto en el Ministerio del Coro, Pequeñas Comunidades de Fe y miembro del grupo de Cursillos de Cristiandad. Viajábamos a las pequeñas aldeas alrededor de Santa Catarina Mita para traer las Buenas Nuevas del Evangelio. Recuerdo que caminábamos distancias largas a las aldeas que no tenían caminos ni electricidad. My papá nunca recibió una educación formal en música pero aún así el mismo aprendió a tocar la guitarra y la acordeón.
El compartió este regalo de la música para evangelizar a otros en los ministerios que el se dedicó. Creciendo pude testificar las bonitas memorias de las pequeñas comunidades de fe en nuestro hogar. No teníamos mucho, pero mis padres siempre estuvieron seguros de tener pan guatemalteco y café para ofrecerles. Recuerdo mucha gente, y me preguntaba, de donde salió tanta gente? La mayoría de la comunidad viajaba de las aldeas alrededor para alabar a Dios y estudiar la biblia. Un hermoso testimonio de mi padre fue que aún no tiendo educación formal, el mismo aprendió a leer por medio del estos estudios bíblicos. El mejor regalo que mi papa nos dejo fue el regalo de como vivir nuestra fe. Qué testimonio más hermoso!
Porque su fe era muy importante para el, mi familia le gustaría honrar su memoria creando un fondo memorial en su nombre. Todos los fondos serán donados a nuestra parroquia natal en Guatemala. La Iglesia Santa Catarina Mita está localizada a dos horas y media de la ciudad de Guatemala y está en mucha necesidad de reparaciones para el techo de la parroquia. La Iglesia de Santa Catarina Mira es donde mi papá dio testimonio del amor de Jesucristo. Este encuentro con Dios, tuvo un profundo impacto no solo en el, pero también en la Familia Palma.
