Michael needs our help!
What Happened
On August 19, 2020, Michael had a brain hemorrhagic stroke, which left him paralyzed on his entire right side, unable to walk or use his right hand and arm, and with a severe speech impediment. Michael spent two months in ICU and in a skilled nursing facility. His medical insurance does not cover the cost of extended skilled nursing home care, so he had to leave the facility and come home on October 15, 2020. Michael still has an extremely long road ahead for recovery, and needs 24 hour nursing assistance to help with his daily living needs (i.e., dressing, bathing, meals, transport in/out of bed, etc.). Unfortunately, his medical insurance does not cover the cost of this assistance either. The cost of these services are extremely expensive and Michael has exhausted his personal assets to pay for his in home health care and additional medical expenses. Now Michael is in urgent need of help to continue paying for this service until he is hopefully approved for government assistance. This is where we as a community can come together to help Michael, who has selflessly given so much of himself to help others.
My name is Pastor Mary E. Reese and I am asking for help for our son Michael Reese. At the age of 25 Micheal was diagnosed with a rare brain tumor called Glioblastoma, for which there is no cure, and has been battling this condition for over 20 years. This tumor was initially detected in 1998 after he fell dead in church during our Sunday morning worship service from a grand mal seizure. Through prayer and a miracle from God he was raised up from the dead, and is still alive today! Throughout the years Michael has undergone 3 brain surgeries to remove the tumor, but each time it continues to return more aggressively and in 2019 it returned as a grade 4 cancer that is inoperable. He is currently on chemo pills to treat the tumor, but now with the stroke it has complicated matters even more and Michael is incurring numerous medical expenses.
About Michael
Michael is 47 years old and is an accomplished musician and singer. He plays the piano, organ, keyboard, saxophone, tuba and has recorded his own gospel CD. Over the years he has played all types of music from jazz, blues, classical, rock, but his passion is gospel. He has played for gospel groups, other recording artist, and many churches since he was 15 years old. For numerous years, Michael was a piano teacher and taught piano lessons to children and adults. He also worked many years at KPRS/KPRT radio station and was recently employed as a Peer Educator for a local health clinic. Michael is a good man who loves the Lord, life and laughter! He has a big, loving, caring and compassionate heart, and always puts everyone ahead of himself—now Michael is in need of our help.
How You Can Help
Many have asked if they could help in anyway to please let them know. Private duty agency cost for Michael’s 24 hour in home health care is extremely expensive. As mentioned previously, Michael has exhausted his assets and is no longer able to pay for these services. We are seeking to raise $50,000 to continue paying for Michael’s in home health care and other medical expenses that may occur. All donations received will go directly towards Michael’s medical care. Any amount that you are able to contribute to help us reach this goal would be greatly appreciated. Michael is fighting very hard to recover and says he is motivated!
