Michael James Johnson was born on July 22, 1998. He was admitted to the NICU weighing in at 5 lbs 1 oz. Due to complications during delivery, his prognosis was not good, but by the miracle of God's grace, Michael survived. He was diagnosed with cerebral palsy and autism, but he was his mother's miracle baby.
On Thursday, August 10, 2017, my sister-in-law received a devasting phone call from Michael's school stating that she needed to come there right away because he was not breathing and EMS were en route. EMS was working on reviving Michael when she arrived at the school. They were able to revive him and transported him to the hospial, but despite the efforts administered by the first responders and ER medical team, Michael did not survive. What started out as a normal routine morning, ended in devastation within a few short hours.
Michael lived an amazing 19 years under the loving care of his mother, Janice, his stepfather, Alfred, and his younger brother, Benjamin, who is also diagnosed with autism. He loved dribbling and catching his toy ball (he owned several), playing the music on his keyboard and musical toys, and sitting and relaxing in the sun by his swimming pool on the deck at home.
My sister-in-law, Janice, is the most amazing devoted mother I know. She has devoted her entire her life, 24/7 to both of her sons not only in the care they receive at home, but also advocating and being their voices in their medical care and their schools. They are her "life." Michael's death was devasting to all of us who loved him, but the pain my sister-in-law is suffering from losing her first-born child is incomprehensible.
I am asking for prayers for Janice, Alfred and Benjamin as they are grieving and trying to make sense of their loss, and also for Michael that he is at peace in Heaven within the arms of the Lord.
In memory of Michael, I am also asking that if you are able to make any monetary donation on this page, it would greatly help Janice with covering Michael's cremation and burial costs and is greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance from all of us.
