As many of you know, my daughter Micaela has been sick for a very long time. Only recently has she finally been diagnosed. She has a severe case of chronic, advanced neurological Lyme disease along with 2 other tick borne infections and a host of autoimmune and neurological issues that go along with this.
Micaela used to be a happy, energetic, fun-loving person. But for the past 8 years or so, she has become increasingly debilitated. Lyme disease has wreaked havoc on her life. She used to have little "reprieves" in her illness, but that is no longer the case. She struggles daily just to take care of herself and her daughter because she is beyond exhausted and experiences a wide array of incapacitating symptoms. She is now at a point where her spleen and liver are enlarged and her eyesight is diminishing. She also has a host of scary and disturbing neurological symptoms, among other things. She has become increasingly isolated because she simply can't engage in life.
Micaela wants to tell her own story here and give updates once she feels well enough to do so. This will likely be after she gets home. She would like to be an educational and therapeutic resource for others who are going through something similar. I can't even begin to encompass all she has been through and of course, I don't know what it has been like to live in her body, both physically and emotionally. But I admire her for wanting to help others even in the face of her own difficulties. She is an incredibly compassionate and wise woman.
Unfortunately, it has been difficult to find practitioners close by who can treat her complex illness. If it were as straightforward as finding simple treatment for Lyme disease, that would be relatively easy. But her illness is so complex and her physical condition so frail, that specialized, inpatient treatment is necessary.
After much research, there is a place we have found that should be able to treat her effectively. It is a well regarded Integrative/Functional Health and Healing Hospital in Mexico, about an hour south of San Diego that offers specialized inpatient treatment for complex Lyme Disease and other chronic illnesses.

Of course, as with many innovative treatments, most of the expense will not be covered by insurance. So we are asking you to help out in whatever way you can. I can't stress how urgent it is for her to get this treatment as soon as possible. I just want my daughter healthy again. She has so much to share with the world if only she gets better.
