I am a mother with a 19 month old son who has just finished his last 6 months of chemo because of the genes and cancer cells in my body.
My name is Mia Matos and I am 25 years old. I was recently diagnosed in October with Familiar Adenomatous Polyposis (FAP) which is a disorder characterized by cancer of the large intestine (colon). Because of my genes my son was born with cancer in the liver known as hepatoblastoma. Hepatoblastoma is a rare cancerous tumor that starts in the liver and primarily affects children under the age of three. My son, Isaiah was diagnosed when he was 7 months old after being hospitalized several times with unknown symptoms. After several hospital visits and running several tests for over 5 hours, he had undergone an 8 hour surgery and only had to commit to 6 months of chemo where he is now 5 months cancer free and I am truly blessed for that. During his chemo treatments, I would be very sick with symptoms and several hospital visits where doctors would only tell me that I had an upset stomach until several tests were run after my third hospital visit where I was diagnosed with FAP. I have to get a colectomy, where they will remove my colon in a two part surgery and the recovery time is 3-4 months.
Now, normally I wouldn’t ask for help however, my health insurance isn’t that great and because of my surgery I will be unable to work to pay for food, bills, transportation, household expenses, child care and medical bills not only for myself but for the past medical bills for when Isaiah was in the hospital undergoing chemo treatments. Anything helps either donating or sharing this post. If we can get this message to as many people as possible no matter how small a donation is, I would greatly appreciate all of your support.
