Mi lucha por la vida

Esta es la historia de mi tío en su lucha por vivir:


Hace 6 meses mi cuerpo comenzó a fallar, mi apetito cada vez era menor y mi falta de fuerza me debilitó de tal manera que tuve que dejar mi trabajo. 

Sin tener idea sobre que me estaba pasando, muy  preocupado visité al doctor, quien tras varios exámenes diagnosticó la presencia de un Cáncer de Páncreas en mi cuerpo. 

Escuchar la palabra ¨cáncer¨ me hizo pensar en muchas cosas, lo primero que pasó por mi mente fue mi hija de 11 años, Maria Victoria, quien depende completamente de mi. Y ahí comenzaron a comerme las preguntas ¿Quién la va a mantener? ¿Quién va a velar por su educación? Voy a morir, y ella crecerá sola? En ese momento supe que no me iba a rendir, que esta lucha era por ella. 


El primer paso indicado por el doctor fue operarme, con la esperanza de poder retirar el tumor. Tristemente, así como abrieron mi cuerpo, lo volvieron a cerrar, sin siquiera haber podido retirarlo debido al extremo riesgo de empeorar la situación, puesto que el tumor había tomado mi páncreas por completo, hasta llegar a invadir mi estómago. 

Después de este terrible pronóstico, el médico recomendó una quimioterapia, la cual me daría calidad de vida por el tiempo que me quedaba. 

Allí comenzó mi penuria junto a mi familia, para tratar de conseguir el tratamiento que me indicó el oncólogo, la cual debido a la situación de nuestro país (Venezuela) se nos hizo cuesta arriba, por esto, nos vimos obligados a buscar estas medicinas en el extranjero cuyo precio era en dólares lo cual lo hacia imposible para mi, así fue como con la ayuda de mi familia y un gran préstamo que tuve que pedir, se logró terminar mi quimioterapia.

Hace una semana me tocó la revisión regular,  después de una tomografía (donde se evaluó el comportamiento del tumor, para evaluar sus respuestas a la quimioterapia) surgió la sorpresa del médico de ver una reducción importante del tumor la cual él no esperaba, cambió mi panorama. ¡Tengo posibilidades de vivir! Un poco más.. al menos para ver a mi hija crecer. 

Pero el gran problema es que ahora recomendó una quimioterapia más larga y costosa, a mi familia después del primer tratamiento ya se le hace imposible ayudarme y tristemente no puedo trabajar por mi delicada condición,  pero ahora menos que nunca me puedo rendir, esta mejoría ha sido un milagro. 

Este es uno de los mayores obstáculos en mi proceso de recuperación y no pienso darme por vencido. Ahora más que nunca tengo ganas de seguir luchando por mi futuro junto a mi hija.

This is my uncle’s story on the fight for his life:



Six months ago my body started failing me, mi appetite grew smaller and my lack of strength weakened me to the point I had to leave my job.

Without knowing what was happening to me, I visited the doctor, who after running several tests uncovered the presence of a Pancreatic Cancer inside my body.

When I first heard the word “Cancer”, I thought about many things. The first thought that crossed my mind was my eleven-year-old daughter, Maria Victoria, who is completely dependent on me. At that moment I started drowning myself in questions. Who is going to look after her? Who is going to safeguard her education? Am I going to die, and leave her to grow up by herself? It was then when I decided I wasn’t going to give up, this fight was for her.
The first step in my treatment was an operation, with the hopes of removing the tumor. Sadly, just as they opened up my body, they closed it, without being able to remove the tumor due to extreme risk of worsening the situation. The tumor had taken over my pancreas  as a whole.

After this terrible forecast, the doctor recommended chemotherapy, which promised to give me some quality of life for the time I had left. At that moment started the hardship with my family. Due to the situation in my country (Venezuela) we saw ourselves obligated to get the medicines needed for my treatment abroad, whose dollar price tag made it impossible for me to obtain. That is how with the tremendous help of my family and a big loan I had to take I was able to finish my Chemotherapy.

A week ago I had my regular check-up. After a tomography intended to evaluate the behavior of the tumor and analyze its response to Chemo, we were surprised with an important reduction in the size of the tumor, which changed my outlook. I had the chance to live! At least a little more… to see my daughter grow up.
The big problem now is that the doctor recommended a more extensive, and expensive Chemotherapy, and after the first round of treatment my family finds themselves unable to help me economically anymore. I can’t work, because of my delicate condition, but with this unexpected improvement I can’t give up now more than ever!

This has been one of the biggest obstacles in my rehabilitation process, and I won’t give up. Within me I now have more will to fight than ever, for my future next to my daughter.
