Send Kids in Need to Summer Camp in Silver Spring

5 Star Kids Camp is a full-day summer camp serving students entering 1st through 7th grades in Silver Spring, Maryland. A ministry of Layhill Community Church, 5 Star Kids Camp serves children and families in a zip code where more than 50% of students receive free and reduced-price lunches and nearly 25% of students participate in the English for Speakers of Other Languages program.
We focus on reducing summer "brain drain" through academic lessons. We also work on developing character by teaching about positive character traits using stories from the Bible. But it's not all work - we also encourage healthy fun, including regular physical activity and time outdoors.
Since we serve a lower-income community, we work very hard to keep 5 Star affordable for low-income working families. This year our standard weekly rate is less than 2/3 the nationwide average cost of a weekly day camp - but for many families in our community, even this is not enough to let them afford camp.
Last year we provided more than $15k in scholarship funds to help these families afford to send their children to camp. We would love to do the same this year, but we need your help!
$200 can send one child to camp for an entire week. $40 will fund a week of before- or after-camp care so that working parents don't have to worry about how to balance their child's schedule and their own. Regardless of what you give, we are grateful for any amount you can contribute. 5 Star Kids Camp is a registered nonprofit organization and all donations are fully tax-deductible.
