Hello Friends,
My name is kesny St Louis. I was born on October 16, 1985, in a very poor village called La Grange, north of St. Marc, Haiti. I was raised in a two-room thatch hut with dirt floors. I have 11 siblings; 7 brothers and 4 sisters. I am the sixth of the 12 children. My dad does fishing and farming to feed us and pay our education. You can imagine the difficulties and challenges to provide education for 12 children from fishing and a small farm. My parents have very little education, but they would do anything to have the ability to see us educated. They can only go so far.
At age 10 I began to have seizures. I fought through my seizures to get through school. At times I was sent back home to rest after having seizures in my classes. I would have a seizure when I was under pressure or lacking sleep. One time some of my friends and I were desperately hungry and went to a garden to find some mangoes to eat. My friend and I both climbed a mango tree. I had a seizure and fell from the tree and broke my back.
A little over a year later, I had another seizure episode and fell into a wood fire used for cooking. I lost both of my arms due to the burning. I became seriously depressed, stressed, and anxious at the thought of my future. I pictured myself being stuck with my parents’ care in the village and getting eaten by mosquitoes in the summers. I would never be able to go to school.
I felt hopeless, yet God was making a future plan for me. Six months after my incident, I met a missionary who God used to show me the way to have a fulfilling life. She brought me to the United States. This was when I realized there was hope for disabled people if they worked at it. She inspired me to live and to dream again. Soon I started writing with my mouth and every day I became better at it. In 2000 I returned to Haiti and attended an American school. Thus I began a new journey. I rediscovered myself and the extraordinary opportunities God gives me. I discovered God can use an ordinary weak man to do extraordinary things.
If you ask me, “How do you deal with your disability?”, I’d tell you I do not let my disability define me. I am someone who trusts Jesus with everything. This is why I do not let my disability get in the way of accomplishing God’s plan for me.
I am a confident hard worker, motivated, and ambitious. I am very passionate about education and love learning new things. I particularly love learning new things about God. I am a Bible teacher at my church and an inspirational public speaker. I love going around and sharing God's work in my life, telling others about him, and offering God’s hope to the hopeless.
I am inspired to go into full-time ministry. I have the opportunity to study at Moody Theological Seminary. Studying can be challenging for me because of my disability. I use my feet to type and my mouth to write. It is hard work, but it is worth it for me.
However, I don't have enough funds to start the year. I have until August 20, 2017, to raise $7,000. I am also in need of a new computer and the Logos Bible software for my classes. Can you please support me to go to Moody? Your contribution is part of God’s plan for me.
I trust in God’s promises. He says he has a plan for me in Jeremiah 29:11. This is the hope that drives me. I feel I am the last person who should be going to seminary, humanly speaking. But I desire to follow God’s lead, not just because of the blessings that come with that, but the honor it brings God when he uses me for his purposes. God gives me the heart, the strength, and the motivation to overcome the challenges I face and follow his plan.
I trust God’s plan for my life requires my participation in it. You can also participate through your finances. His plan is to use me to do great things in the Kingdom. I do not have hands to touch or clean the table after church. But I have a brain, a mouth, and a heart that can be used for his glory. I am dedicated to use them for his glory. God calls me to be a pastor, teacher and a counselor. This is why I am going to seminary. With your help I can become all the things God is calling me to be. Thank you for your support and prayers!
