Mew Tews Refuge Facility Purchase

Tax deductible
Thank you for taking a look at our campaign.  I would like to bring to point one thing.  This campaign was originally started to raise money to purchase a facility for the refuge.  Our campaign has been  running for nearly 3 weeks and we are far from our goal. Some may think there is no way we will get this facility. But, thanks to a very generous individual (who wishes to remain anonymous), we will be able to purchase our facility!!! This individual has fronted the money for the purchase, which enabled us to complete the purchase of the facility in time, but it is an interest free loan and will have to be paid back eventually.   While this campaign has been going, I have completed the title search on the facility, came back in good shape, no problems.  There is about $600 in back taxes that will have to be paid at closing.  It looks like there might be enough donations from this campaign to pay those back taxes, but much more will be needed for repairs to the facility itself.  We have also been very blessed to have another very special donation. A very generous lawyer has been kind enough to handle the legalities of this property purchase pro bono!!! This cuts down significantly on closing cost!  So many prayers answered!!! As I mentioned before, this cannot be done without a lot of help from everyone on many levels and in many ways.  I cannot thank everyone enough for all their generous contributions and help brought on board from so many.  There is a lot of work to be done as the property has been neglected for some time. Our campaign continues with the goal to continue to raise funds for much needed repairs and repay our anonymous angel. Any help is humbly appreciated. So grateful to each and every one!

Our story:

Mew Tews Refuge was established in 2011.  My name is Lisa Hill, the founder, and this is how it all began.   I am an insurance appraiser and what I do is assess damages to vehicles for insurance claims, so I visit multiple repair shops in one day. While at a shop, I saw a tiny 5 month old greasy kitten sitting on a scrap of dirty carpet. Naturally I went over and picked it up and gently petted and loved the poor sad looking little thing. He was a gray tuxedo and shaking all over so badly you just wanted to hug his troubles away. One of the mechanics working there quickly said, “Don’t handle him, he was caught in a motor we were working on and is hurt”. I asked if he was going to take it to the vet, and he said “No, it’s not my cat I'm not spending any money on it”. I asked if he would mind if I took it and he said fine with him. So, I put the kitten back down, examined my car, and then scooped the little kitten back up gently in my arms and headed for the vet. (Now mind you, my husband was expecting me shortly for a business meeting. I was a bit late.) Upon examination, the vet noted he had internal bleeding and several bad cuts on his ears, head, and the end of his tail had been severed. The vet cleaned him up, bandaged what she could and said he had a 50-50 chance of surviving the weekend. The vet’s instructions were to keep him quiet and warm and provide plenty of water with a little canned food 4-5 times a day in small amounts. We named him Little Bitty and he is now 8 years old.  The spark began with Little Bitty, but it quickly grew into a large flame of love.  There are now many more loving companions who are looking for their forever homes.

In addition to my full time job as an appraiser and taking care of all my kitties at the house, I also volunteer at Critter Care’s  weekly vaccination clinic each and every Saturday.

We were able to officially get our 501(c)(3) status this summer!  The cat rescue was named for Mew Tews, one of the many cats we cared for who recently passed away due to autoimmune disease. Mew Tews holds a very special place in my heart.

Mew Tews Refuge currently operates out of my personal residence and it's long past time to get a separate facility for the cats.  Our main goal with this GoFundMe is to secure funding to take advantage of a unique opportunity to secure the property shown below at a generous price of $10,000, thanks to a neighbor.  We’re aiming to close on the property by the end of September, and, once purchased, we will have a lot of work on our hands to get the property cleaned up and suitable for habitation.  However, at the end, we will have a rescue center that will enable us to meet our organization’s goals of:

1. Increasing the number of adoptions and finding more forever homes for our kitties
2. Increasing our ability to manage our rescue population, especially our sick kitties who need special accommodations
3. Fostering more kitties who would soon be put down at local animal control centers
4. Educating potential and current cat owners on how to properly take care of their pets
5. Assisting in the ever growing problem of our feral cat population

A summary of our story and goals:

The rescue is currently being run out of a personal residence and we need to provide a more functional facility for all of our kitties, especially our ever-growing special needs kitties.  The rate of adoptions has been slow and we need to get it increased as well as share resources with pet owners so they can provide happy and healthy forever homes for their cats. This will be more easily attained with a separate facility for the kitties.  We also want to step up our efforts on spaying and neutering of our local feral cat population.

How your donation will help us:

Since the money for the purchase has been provided as a loan, the donations from this campaign will pay back taxes on the property (needed to be paid at closing) and additional donations will be used to begin repairs.  Your donations will help provide a dedicated and safe space for all of our cats while waiting for their forever families to find them.

Who will your donation benefit:

All of our kitties! It will also enable us to be of better service to our community by catching feral cats, getting them spayed/neutered, and hopefully finding forever homes for them .
Having a separate property will allow us to better manage our cat population, providing a safe place for newborn kittens to grow and socialize, a quarantine area for sick and recovering cats, and plenty of space to roam and climb.

Organization members and volunteers:

A rescue facility will provide a central location from which to coordinate efforts.  Since we’re currently running this charity from a personal residence, it's not feasible to allow volunteers to have access if nobody is home.  Once the new facility is ready for occupancy, volunteers can be given keys so they can gain access for their shift.  One "manager" will be on duty during operating hours.

Adopters:

A proper rescue location will provide a dedicated space that is designed to allow potential adopters to meet and interact with their new furry family member in a controlled space.

Where will your donation go:

The $10,000 purchase price was provided as an interest free loan so we wouldn't lose this fantastic opportunity, so the donations received here will go toward paying the back taxes (which must be paid at closing) and then we can start working on repairs. Examples would be:
Mowing and brush removal
Possible tree removal
Building repair
Building interior renovation
Fencing renovation

In order for us to help our fur babies, we need as much support as possible from all of you.  Please donate!  Even a donation of $1 will make a difference.  If you cannot help us directly, spreading the word by sharing this fundraiser, our web page, or our Facebook page would also help us greatly!  One act of love can make a difference!  Please make a difference!  Let’s find forever homes for all of our rescue cats!
