Messinger Wood Wildlife Care and Education Center

WNY's only wildlife hospital. We are an all volunteer organization in the rolling hills of Holland, NY with home care satellites allover Erie county.

Messinger Woods Wildlife Care and Education Center, Inc. is a 501(c)3  Corporation is an all-volunteer organization,  dedicated to helping orphaned,  injured, sick and endangered wildlife in and around the Western New York area.  We have been in existence since 1996 and own approximately 200 acres of land in WNY.    In 2003, we built New York States only wildlife hospital, completed dedicated to wildlife, complete with a surgical suite, X-ray room and X-ray developing room.    Our hospital has exam rooms where our Veterinarians weekly examine every patient in the hospital, a surgical preparation room, conference/library/office, kitchen, nursery and active animal wards.   Our outside caging consists of a weathering building where the babies are kept outside during the day to get them used to the sights and sounds of nature, a flight barn (50 feet long by 35 feet wide) which houses larger birds in need of flight exercise; a large waterfowl compound consisting of a building the size of a two car garage, and attached to a large chain link fenced in area houses 3 separate pools, a back area which is grass covered as well as a large side fenced in area for more grass time for the birds.   The entire area has chain link fencing on the top, and all sides.     We also have additional cages which house mammals and birds.   Because Eagles are coming back into the WNY area, we are in need of building a large flight barn where these birds can be housed and give the space to fully exercise their wings.    The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has issued guidelines required to house these birds and currently there are no cages available in our area to house them.    We are in the process of building a cage 180 feet long and 35 feet wide.   The initial cost of building this cage is $65,000.00.    We have raised the sum of $30,000.00 towards this cage and are asking for donations to help us cover the balance of the costs so that we can get this cage completed.

Anyone donating $35.00 or more will be given an acknowledgment inside the flight barn with their names and if the donation was made in memory of a pet or loved one.

Please consider helping us with this project.   The birds in our care - not just Eagles - will benefit greatly by having this space to truly exercise those wings and build up their pectoral muscles, allowing them to complete their required long flights.    Osprey, Peregrine Falcons, Great Blue Herons, Red-tailed Hawks, Great Horned Owls, Barred Owls, Red-shouldered Hawks, Turkey Vultures, basically all large birds will benefit.  Having a cage such as this will allow us to rehab many different species at the same time and,  get them home to where they belong FAST!

We need to break ground on this project as possible!

Thank you in advance for all of your help.    On behalf of wildlife that can't speak for themselves....THANK YOU!
