I have been involved in the charity Destiny of a Child for many years. We work to raise money and provide assistance for worthwhile charitable causes focusing on children.
This year we are raising funds for Dogs for Good. I will be walking part of the Camino de Santiago along the primitive route from O Cadavo Baleira to Santiago de Compostela during the last week of May.
This year, we hope to raise £200,000 for UK charity Dogs For Good - a UK based charity which provides training to puppies to become assistance dogs for children with autism. These dogs provide confidence and vital companionship, relieve anxiety and assistance in day to day life.
An expertly-trained dog can give both parents and children real independence, often for the first time in their lives, as well as providing inarguable empathetic companionship for the child.
To give an idea of where your money could go...
* £10 Gift - A puppy’s first steps
A gift of a collar and lead for one of the pups will mean they are kitted up to take their first steps outside their home.
* £15 Gift - Uniform for a dog in training
The dogs in training wear smart green jackets to identify them as working dogs. This gift will buy one of the trainees their special uniform.
* £30 Gift - Puppy Class
The puppy classes are where the new recruits learn all their basic skills – and have lots of fun playing with their puppy pals!
* £43 Gift - Puppy health check
Pay for a puppy in training’s veterinary health check, ensuring they are in perfect condition and growing into a healthy young dog.
* £57 - Puppy suppers
Fast growing puppies need nutritious and tasty food to ensure they have all the fuel they need! This gift will provide enough food to feed two puppies for a whole month.
* £81 - 3 days at training school
Each of the dogs have a lot to learn before they can go on to become life-changers. Fund 3 days training for one of the future assistance or community dogs with this gift.
