Meninos da Ilha de Moçambique

Ilha de Moçambique, a pequena ilha que originou o nome do país, com um património de herança de uma história incrível com mais de 500 anos  esquecida no tempo.

Dividida em duas cidades, a ilha está sobre-lotada com 16000 habitantes, onde a maioria vive na cidade do Macuti, em casas tradicionais com telhados de folhas de coqueiro, que se amontoam nos vários bairros. E na outra metade, a cidade de Pedra e Cal caracterizada pelos imponentes edifícios coloniais sendo a área mais turística, com os principais monumentos, restaurantes e hotéis.

Hoje a ilha vive da pesca, algum comércio e Turismo, sendo este o principal sustento de muitas famílias.

As crianças que vagueiam nas ruas e perseguem os turistas em busca de algum dinheiro, comida e até mesmo um aconchego, são muitas vezes rotulados de “incómodos”, esquecendo-nos que muitas destas crianças não têm qualquer tipo de apoio familiar e por consequência nem são matriculados na escola, e os que são persegue-lhes o sentimento de frustração por não conseguirem aprender, porque tal como a ilha, também as escolas são sobre-lotadas, onde as turmas chegam a ter 80 alunos, o que dificulta a relação interpessoal entre professor e aluno.

Foi nos nossos passeios diários pela ilha que conhecemos este grupo de rapazes com idades dos 7 aos 14 anos , e depois de várias conversas, percebemos que são crianças cujo os sonhos não existem nem uma visão do amanhã. Embora consigam sorrir atrás dos turistas para ganhar o pão de cada dia, o futuro não lhes sorri de volta, pois o mais provável é estes rapazes terem um destino marginalizado.

E foi com amor no coração pela ilha e pelas crianças que pensámos em criar o Centro dos Meninos da Ilha de Moçambique, um espaço de aprendizagem, de apoio à educação e acolhimento, onde gostaríamos de aprender e descobrir com eles as suas valências, aptidões e dons de cada um, como indivíduos únicos, pois estas crianças merecem ser felizes, merecem aprender, podem sonhar, ter um futuro melhor e ter mais uma oportunidade.

Contamos com a vossa ajuda para conseguirmos montar este Centro de Aprendizagem e Acolhimento, onde para além das actividades diárias e ateliers lúdicos contamos também conseguir dar dois lanches nutritivos diariamente.

Nossa meta contempla todos os custos do Centro, atividades e alimentação durante 6 meses e acreditamos que até obter uma estrutura mais contínua de assistência ao projeto por meio de um sistema de apadrinhamentos.

Objetivos do Projeto

-Criar meios de interesse para que as crianças possam usar a sua potencialidade, com o intuito de retirá-las da rua, tornando-os pessoas mais confiantes, seguras e conscientes para um futuro, com novas oportunidades pessoais, comunitárias e profissionais.

-Atividades para trabalhar a auto-responsabilização, a auto-confiança, reestruturação dos valores pessoais, desenvolvimento e valorização das habilidades e capacidades de cada um e espírito de coletividade e de comunidade.

-Conceitos e conteúdos escolares trabalhando por temas e com um sistema alternativo, inspirada na metodologia 7 Pétalas ajustada à realidade destas crianças, tentando que tenham interesse, motivação, atenção, compreensão, participação e expectativa de aprender.

-Consciencialização da importância da preservação do meio ambiente, da problemática e consequências da poluição a nível local e mundial.

-Interiorização do comprometimento e responsabilização em relação à comunidade da Ilha de Moçambique e o seu Município, promovendo assim a cidadania.

-Promover o envolvimento familiar de cada criança em atividades do Centro, para um processo de educação coletivo.




Atividades do Centro:

Atelier de Aprendizagem: Desenvolvimento linguístico-verbal, lógico-matemático e prático, conhecimento da História e Cultura da Ilha de Moçambique e do Mundo

Atelier de Consciência: Práticas variadas de meditação para o desenvolvimento da inteligência emocional, auto-conhecimento, inter-ajuda e comprometimento em relação a si próprio e aos outros

Atelier de Expressão Dramática: Desenvolvimento do imaginário e da criatividade, comunicação, socialização, memória, auto-confiança e concentração com atividades individuais e em grupo

Atelier de Cozinha: Aprender a importância da nutrição alimentar e confeção de alimentos

Atelier de Música: desenvolvimento da sensibilidade, criatividade, senso rítmico, do prazer de ouvir música, da imaginação, memória, concentração, atenção, do respeito ao próximo, da socialização e afetividade,contribuindo para uma consciência corporal e de movimento

Atelier de Desenho: Desenvolvimento cognitivo, emocional e social das crianças, além de desenvolver a concentração e calma, percebendo a variedade de cores, formas e texturas.

Atelier de Artes Plásticas: Aprender a moldar, modificar, reestruturar materiais recicláveis e /ou reutilizáveis alertando a importância do meio ambiente

Atelier de Empreendedorismo: Integração de futuros jovens responsáveis e pro-ativos na comunidade da Ilha, bem como a motivação para o seu futuro, através de projetos individuais e em equipa desenvolvidos nas diferentes áreas de interesse de cada um

O meu nome é Juliana, sou uma portuguesa que nasceu na Alemanha e foi criada desde os oito meses numa vila transmontana, Torre de Moncorvo.

Tive uma infância livre e feliz, e a sorte de ter uma família bondosa e estruturada. Formei-me em Artes e trabalhei muitos anos na industria de moda em produções, verdade que lá fiz os melhores amigos que posso ter, mas também me obrigou a procurar outros caminhos de auto-conhecimento, trabalho social e solidário.

Viajei muito, conheci algumas culturas, comidas, casas, pessoas com quem aprendi tanto!

Nesta busca cheguei à Ilha de Moçambique, onde mal pus o pé senti que regressei à minha infância, senti-me em casa, senti-me livre, feliz . Apaixonei-me pela cores, ruas, barcos, pelo mar, pelos sorrisos, pelas pessoas e pelas crianças. Falo de um grupo de rapazes , com idades entre os 7 e os 14 anos, que vagueiam pelas ruas da ilha, tentando ganhar algum dinheiro dos turistas e não deslumbram uma oportunidade para o seu futuro.

E é aqui, é aqui com estas crianças que quero partilhar, aprender, dar Amor e Crescer!





Eu sou a Joana, uma mulher que cresceu numa aldeia com a Serra de Sintra como pano de fundo. Conheço pessoas de todo o mundo, desde a escola internacional, ao meu percurso profissional onde experimentei de tudo um pouco mas com pouco me identifiquei, mas há um sonho que me acompanhava desde criança, que era de um ia vir a África.

Aos 27 anos decidi fazer voluntariado, e nas minha pesquisas descobri a Ilha de Moçambique. Quando cheguei foi amor a primeira vista, e ao invés dos 6 meses iniciais já faz 8 anos que me sinto em casa.

Tenho uma família maravilhosa, e amigos do coração que me ensinaram e ajudaram a tornar-me na mulher sou hoje, e é precisamente esses valores e ensinamentos que quero transmitir a estas crianças que infelizmente não têm oportunidade de ir à escola , nem de crescer em famílias estruturadas, mas que diariamente me chamam com carinho de Tia Joana.




In English:

The Mozambique Island, a small island that gave rise to the country's name, with a heritage of an incredible history lasting over 500 years in time.

Divided into two cities, the island is almost crowded with 16,000 inhabitants, most live in the town of Macuti, in traditional houses with coconut leaf roofs. On the other half of the island, characterized by the important colonial buildings, the city of Stone and Lime is a more touristic area, with the main monuments, restaurants, and hotels.

As of present, the island’s main economic activities include fishing, some commerce, and tourism, being main sources of income for many families.

Children who wander the streets in pursuit of tourists for some money, food and even shelter, are often labeled "troublesome", we almost forget that many of these children have no family support and are not enrolled in schools. Most of these children are in frustration of not being able to acquire proper education because they are enrolled in crowded schools, with more than 80 students in one small classroom. Furthermore, they can feel frustrated with the difficulty to establish interpersonal connections between teachers and students.

It was in our daily walks around the island that we met this group of boys between the ages of 7 and 14, and after several conversations, we realized that they are young children whose dreams do not even envision an idea of tomorrow. Although they consider smiling behind the tourists to earn their daily bread, the future of these boys does not smile them back, its most likely these boys will have a marginalized destiny.

It was with love in our hearts for the island and the children that we thought about the creation of the Mozambique Island Children's Centre, a welcoming and support for education environment, where they could enjoy learning and discovering their self-knowledge and abilities as unique individuals. We believe these children can find happiness again, learn more, entitled to dream and have a better future if provided with one more opportunity.

We would like to have the opportunity to build this space!

We count on your help to set up the learning space, where besides the activities and musical workshops we can also provide two daily nutritional snacks.

Our goal contemplates all the costs of the Centre, activities, and food provision for 6 months. We believe that in the long-term, we can obtain a more continuous structure to support the project through a system of child sponsorship.

Project Objectives

-          Create means of interest for children who can use their potential, in order to stay out of the streets, feel more confident, safe and self-aware for the future, with new personal and professional opportunities.

-          Activities to work with self-responsibility, self-confidence, restructuring personal values, development and appreciation of skills and self-entertainment and spirit of collectivity and community.

-          Concepts and school contents working by themes through an alternative system, inspired by the 7 Petals methodology adjusted to the reality of the children, trying to foster their interests, motivation, attention, understanding, participation and expectation of learning.

-          Consciousness of the importance of preserving the environment, the problems and consequences of pollution at local and global levels.

-          Interiorization of the commitment and the responsibility in relation to the community of the Mozambique Island and its municipality, thus promoting citizenship.

-          To promote the family involvement of each child in the Center's activities, for a process of collective education.

Activities of the Center:

Learning Workshop: Verbal-linguistic development, logical-mathematical and practical, and knowledge of the History and Culture of Mozambique Island.

Consciousness Workshop: Meditation practices for the development of emotional intelligence, self-knowledge, self and community assistance and commitment to the community.

Dramatic/Theatre Expression Workshop: Development of imagination and creativity, communication, socialization, memory, self-confidence and concentration with individual and group activities.

Cooking Workshop: Learning the importance of food nutrition and cooking.

Music Workshop: Development of sensitivity, creativity, rhythmic sense, pleasure in listening to music, imagination, memory, concentration, attention, making respect for others, socialization and affection, also contributing to an effective physical awareness and movement.

Design Workshop: Cognitive, emotional and social development of children, in addition to develop a sense of observation, perceive a variety of cores, shapes and textures.

Visual Arts Workshop: Learn to shape, modify, restructure recyclable and/or reusable materials to trigger the environmental conscience.

Entrepreneurship Workshop: Integrate them as future and responsible youth through individual projects and teams capacity building in their different areas of interest.

Founders:

My name is Juliana, a Portuguese woman who was born in Germany and raised in a small Portuguese village called Torre de Moncorvo.

I had a free and happy childhood. I was lucky to have a kind and structured family. I graduated in Arts and worked many years in the fashion industry. It is true that I made the best friends I can have during this path, but it also forced me to look for other ways of self-knowledge, social work and solidarity.

I travelled a lot, I familiarized with different cultures, foods, houses, people with whom I learned so much!

 

In this search, I arrived in the Mozambique Island, where I feel like returning to my childhood. I feel at home. I feel free and happy. I fell in love with the colors, the streets, the boats, the sea, the smiles, the people and the children. Related to the children, I am talking about a group of boys, aged between 7 and 14, who walk around the streets of the island, trying to earn some money from tourists and do not find an opportunity for their own future.

It is through these children that I want to share, learn, give love and grow.  

I am a Joana, a woman who grew up in a village called Serra da Sintra. I know people from all over the world ranging from my studies in an international school to my professional career where I have experienced a little of everything. Nevertheless, during my path, I did not see myself living in the places that I have been, however a dream accompanied me since my childhood, the dream to go to Africa.

When I was 27 years old, I decided to volunteer. In my research, I discovered the Mozambique Island. When I first came it was love on the first sight, instead of the previously 6 months that I planned to be in the Island, I am here for 8 years now. I feel like home.

I have a wonderful family, and friends who teach me and help me to become a woman I am today, and it is precisely these values and knowledge that I want to share with these children who unfortunately do not have opportunities to go to school, or grow up in structured families, but who daily call me with affection Tia (Auntie) Joana.
