Memorial to Honor Kate Halligan

Donation protected
Kathleen F. Halligan, cherished wife, mother, daughter, sister, and friend passed away in her sleep on March 14th, 2018 at the age of 47.

Kate was a lively, feisty, and incredible soul. She was a dedicated nurse with over 20 years’ experience who worked at Johns Hopkins for the past 17 of those years where her presence will be greatly missed. In addition to raising two remarkable children of her own, Kate was a “work mom” to many nurses and residents. She offered a shoulder to cry on, a mom hug when needed, a home cooked meal, and an expert opinion for guidance. Kate was a tremendous advocate for her patients and their families whether she was saving their lives or helping to offer peace and comfort during their final moments. Kate’s compassion was matched only by her sense of humor, dry and sarcastic, and MacGyver-like nursing ingenuity.

She was an expert level Cards Against Humanity player, an otter lover, a Monty Python and Korean soap opera aficionado, an avid gardener, and a delicious cook. Kate owned several nerf guns for her ninja training and her work station was never without a 2-liter bottle of diet coke.

Kate is leaving behind two young, college age children and husband, Peter (Cornelius) Hommel, of many years. We have established this fund to show our support for Kate’s family during this devastating time and to honor Kate’s beloved memory.

Thank you in advance for your kind words and generosity.

Loved always, sadly missed.

                                                              Afterglow
                                             by Helen Lowrie Marshall

“I’d like the memory of me
                                                  to be a happy one.
I’d like to leave an afterglow
of smiles when life is done.
I’d like to leave an echo
                                    whispering softly down the ways,
Of happy times and laughing times
                                           and bright and sunny days.
I’d like the tears of those who grieve,
                                                to dry before the sun
                                                  of happy memories
that I leave when life is done.”
