Memorial Service of Joel S. Diehl AKA BEAR

As many of those who knew Joel Diehl are aware, he tested positive for COVID-19 on or about July 3, 2020.  On July 9, 2020, he called me to come and pick up my little brother, Talon Bealer because he became ill enough to require going to the emergency room.   Joel was admitted to Memorial Hospital in Colorado Springs on that day and never returned home.  He entered the ICU the first time around July 12, 2020.  He stayed that first time for about 7 days then was moved to a regular room of the hospital.  Then, about the 21st of July, he began to decline and was moved back to the ICU.  On July 29, 2020, the nurse called me at about 1 a.m. to consent to a ventilator as his oxygen levels fell way below 40 percent.  On July 31, I was notified that his kidneys started failing.  On August 2, 2020, I had to consent to dialysis as his kidneys went into failure.  On August 7, 2020, I was notified that Joel's brain was bleeding and had to consent to a functional MRI of the brain.  The next day, I was informed by doctors that Joel's brain had zero function and it was time to take Joel off of life support.  As many know, this is the most difficult decision to make because Talon's biological father, James Bealer died in 2015 which led to Joel Diehl becoming his legal guardian or basically his dad.  It is with a very heavy heart that I, Carrie Lynn Holm,  after much discussion with my little brother, Talon, we made the decision to take Joel off of life support. It is with a broken heart that I am telling you that my dad, AKA Bear passed away at 12:43 pm on Sunday, August 9, 2020 with me and Talon's mother, Atlas Jae holding his hand.  For all those who have reached out, and inquired about Joel, please know we as him family thank you.  We are now in the middle of planning his memorial service which as you may know is costly.  The family is asking for monetary donations in order to assist in covering the costs of the memorial service.  Anything you may be able to donate to this cause would be greatly appreciated as there was not a life insurance policy.  In lieu of cards, flowers, etc for the family please send them to Carrie Holm and Talon Bealer at 3038 South Kearney Street, Denver CO 80222.  Please feel free to share this post with all who loved and cherished Joel "Bear" Diehl.
