Memorial Fund for Zachary J. Starrett

Donation protected
On December 23rd, surrounded by loved ones, our beautiful Zack passed away after fighting a courageous battle bigger than any imaginable caused by the COVID-19 virus.  Zachary, beloved son, brother, grandson, nephew, life partner, dog-dad and friend, we dedicate this page to you.

Zack had a beautiful soul, infectious laugh and incredible smile. He and his brother Josh made up 2/3rds of the 2015 Battle of the Bands winner Supper Break String Band playing venues from local dives to music festivals all over the country!  After their "tour" van broke down in Iowa, the guys decided it was time to pursue other interests, but continued to perform together as much as they could.  Zack honed his bar tending skills at Mr. Toad's in Greensburg, formulating his own specialty cocktails as well as many, many friendships along the way.

Although his light may be dimmed for now, we know it will shine on in our memories.  On behalf of our entire family, we want to thank everyone who joined us all over the globe in our nightly prayers and for your heartfelt expressions of love, positive vibes and happy thoughts throughout Zack’s illness.

Many of you have asked how you can help our family during this difficult time. There are many things you can do to honor Zack.  Pennsylvania flora and fauna were the centerpiece of Zack's tattoos including the Eastern Hemlock and Mountain Laurel. One of our favorite ideas is for folks to go out and plant a tree or shrub in some special location; a living tribute that will remind you of him for many years to come.  Sunflowers are also joy to behold, and will always remind us of his gentle spirit. We have also established a memorial fund to help the family deal with the final expenses from this unimaginable loss.  If you would like to donate, just click on the donate button and donate whatever you can.  Any amount will be fully and humbly appreciated.   (Funds managed by Zack’s mom and her sisters)

If you are not able to donate, please remember you can still leave messages and comments for family and friends to read and share.  When this despicable virus has diminished there will be a grand memorial celebration, when we are all safe to gather and to tell our stories, hug, laugh, cry and remember our talented, sweet, funny, loving, and absolutely lovable, hippie-at-heart.  Any donations beyond the funeral costs and expenses will go toward the memorial event.  Also, make sure you “follow” this page so that you receive updates regarding the memorial plans.

If love alone powered the heart, he would still be here with us but Heaven called and he had to go.  Think of him surrounded by loved ones gone before him, walking barefoot through sunflower fields filled with sunshine and bluegrass music.
