Michael Lee Thompson entered this world at 3:49 a.m. on October 29, 1979.  I wasn’t supposed to have ANY children and God blessed me with two, a son and a daughter.

He LOVED Star Trek and modern science fiction and action packed movies, one of his favorite pastimes was to go the BIG SCREEN.

American Pickers and Storage Wars were shows he loved to watch along with a burger and fries!  Burgers were his favorite but he also loved Subways’ chicken and ranch foot long sandwiches with a fruit punch drink.

We would often be in the car together and I was forced (lol) to listen to hip-hop but hey, now I can tell you I like a few!  Imagine Dragons’ “Thunder” was his ring tone, he thought it was funny some of the message notifications that would come up as suggestions.

Around the age of 25 or so he was discovered to have Type 11 diabetes, a disease that would outsmart and take over in a short amount of time.  He tried managing it with diet and it was too smart for that.  Then he started on the drugs and as the disease progressed he began to lose weight.  When he bought his little Jeep here, he was sooo excited to have a cool car, we took a few trips in that—Coos Bay, Paulina Peak, around the Cascades Lakes.  A short time later he realized he couldn’t drive anymore and had to sell that beloved little Jeep.

And then the ravaging began… his eyesight was going fast, and when he passed he was blind in one eye and fuzzy sight in the last one.  He suffered many painful skin issues, trips to the emergency room because his potassium count was too high.  Two years ago they began to remove parts of his feet due to serious  bone-infecting ulcers.  He lost his appetite because he ended up with gastroenteritis which caused daily vomiting.  A month ago his teeth began to fall out.  He wouldn’t give up smoking.  But ultimately, that was his choice.

We made a trip to the Oregon coast and had coffee and pie in Oceanside.  We stopped in to see his sister and nephews (all of whom he dearly loved) for a great visit.  He was sooo excited when he was able to go shopping for all new clothes; it was great to see him happy.  Mother and son went out to dinner the weekend before he passed and it was great to see him EAT and be happy.   Whatever issues had gone on between family had already had closure so he went without any hurts or regrets.

From his sister:

To all his friends, he still talked about many of you as you you, he loved to hear himself talk.

He will be cremated September 26. My mom and I are planning a small memorial on the coast, - date to be determined- as that was his favorite place, and I’ll paddle out in the surf with him and the boys. His next trip will be with just me to my favorite Mountain, the second highest in Oregon, South Sister. A few things he never got to do.

When we have a day planned, I’ll notify all who wish to attend, most likely in Newport Oregon in the next month.

Thank you for your support and loving Mikey these last 38 years!
