Tia Chachita was a New Yorker - she loved this city. She helped many of us see New York through her eyes, and fall in love with it. In honor of her memory, we are dedicating a bench in or near Central Park to her memory so that her New York legacy, that was so much a part of her, continues. If any of you are interested in supporting this effort you may make a contribution any amount is greatly appreciated.
We plan to install a metal plate with the name of Tia Chachita and a beautiful phrase on a bench. This project will last three months. We found a nice place that is close to Central Park and the American Museum of Natural History.
In NYC Park benches are available for adoption for a contribution of $1,500.The entire process takes about three months from start to finish. Bench adoptions include the plaque with a personalized message and its installation on an existing bench. To select a bench, we choose 1-2 existing benches within the park that do not already have a plaque. We may send a short description of the location, including nearest cross streets and any ‘landmarks’, and photographs of the bench. The plaque will remain on the chosen bench for the life of the bench, approximately 10 years. If before that time, the bench or plaque is damaged or vandalized in some way, NYC Parks will replace that bench and/or plaque at no cost.
