Memorial and Investigation fund for Michael Singh

On October 23, 2020, my beloved brother, Michael passed away.  He had fought muscular dystrophy and a learning disability his whole life. Despite the obstacles that were placed in his way, he always had a smile on his face. He worked hard at everything he did and always had time for his family.  When he was young, the doctors told our mother that he would not live past his 20s, but he lived to 53 years old.

In March, he had emergency triple heart bypass surgery. He had ongoing complications after the surgery, and as a result of the covid pandemic no one could visit him in the hospital. He spent 7 months in the hospital due to ongoing breathing trouble, and then he was transferred to therapeutic nursing home a few weeks ago.  He had to stay a few days in the hospital a week after then was released back to the nursing home. At the time that he was discharged from the hospital, he had pneumonia, but despite the fact that they knew he had pneumonia, they had no monitors of any kind on him to make sure he was breathing.  He was unable to call for help, he had a trach and couldn't speak, no call light was accessible. A caregiver checked on him at 11 p.m. and when they checked again at 1 a.m., he was gone. We suspect negligence on the part of the nursing home and/or the hospital for failing to properly care for my brother.

We need to not only pay for his cremation and transportation home from Miami to Dade City, FL but we also want to request an autopsy. Since the police ruled out foul play, we have to pay thousands of dollars for the autopsy ourselves. The virus has kept any family from these facilities out, if family can't be sure their loved ones are being cared for properly who's their voice.

We truly appreciate any help you can provide. My brother deserves peace and justice, and if the nursing home did indeed neglect him, they need to face responsibility for their actions.

If you can spare a dollar or two, please consider helping us bring him peace.
