Hello my name is Melonie Scott. I am a 43 year old married mother of 1. I am also a 4x Cancer survivor, a 14 year dialysis patient and a SLE Lupus patient. I have been nicknamed Melonie the Miracle.
Let me give you an overview.
In 2001 I gave birth to my son and had a near perfect pregnancy giving birth to a happy healthy 8 lb baby. Over the next few years while working full time , motherhood, and going to school I begin to experience mobilty, stomach and other medical issues. I went through 2 years of poking proving and testing and was finally diagnosed with SLE Lupus . A pretty severe case of it as I would come to know. OVER the next few years I learned to deal with the fatigue, the meds ,the hospitalizations. In around 2008 I begin having urinary and bladder issues. I was diagnosed within lupus nephritis and told my kidneys were slowly failing. The doctors tried everything they could to try and reverse it including chemotherapy treatments. In March of 2009 during a near death hospitalization, I was placed on dialysis. I also had pericarditis and a pericardial window placed on my heart. I had a clot in my lungs that traveled from the clot in my knee. I had a Stent placed to prevent further clots. After I learned to go to dialysis 3 days a week for 3 and half hours per treatment while also being a mom working fulltime because I couldn’t lose my job. It was a lot and the stress didn’t help my Lupus cooperate. During this time I was placed on kidney transplant list once I was stable and even got 3 calls over the years for a kidney although none worked out or was received by me. I was at the top.of the transplant list. THEN on 2018 I was in the hospital and ended up with pneumonia in my lungs from aspiration into my lungs. I was placed on life support . 3 weeks as I lay I’m ICU on life support. Friday April 20,2018 my family was called to have a meeting to make a final decision on whether to stop life support. That Friday night my husband attended a church service and a guest pastor told him she is gonna be ok and for him to “ Give it to God”. The next morning my sisters 40th Birthday when we should’ve been getting ready for her birthday party I was gonna give her my family was planning to meet concerning me. Also that morning my nephrologist got a call saying what they were considering and he came to my husband and said we gonna try 1 last thing and have her transferred because there is a Dr at Yale that may be able to desensitize her to the medicine she is allergic to and clear the pneumonia. I was airlifted to Yale New Haven that day as my family watched from the top of the garage. My husband said he watched as the Dr worked and within an hour or so I was on the antibiotic with no complications. Note I have almost 20 medicine allergies. My husband walked in 2 days later and I was sitting up in my ICU bed . Another miracle had happened. We both cried together as he explained to me what had been happening. I was off life support with a week or so and out the hospital within a month or so. Unfortunately after this I was unae to work. Then another life altering event came in the Fall . I was having abdominal pain and was found to have Stage 4 kidney cancer and had the kidney removed..Few months later,I was having bladder issues and was found to have bladder cancer a completely different cancer from the kidney cancer. My bladder was scraped and a few months later I was deemed Cancer free. In 2019 / 2020 after I had right side rib area pain I was diagnosed with bone cancer that had metastasized from my kidney. I went through 10 radiation treatments and months later was once again Cancer free for the 3rd time. I was placed on chemotherapy pills which I am told will be needed for the remainder of my life. Although on chemo in October 2022 I was diagnosed after having a routine CAT scan with kidney Cancer again in the spot where my kidney was removed. I went through another radiation round and in June of 2023 was deemed Cancer free for 4th time. During all these cancer diagnoses ai had 5 lung surgeries due to multiple lung collapses due to lupus and weak lungs from the pneumonia on 2018. I’ve had too many hospitalizations to count more than someone 3 times my ageand the medical record too. Through it all God was ALWAYS with me. My Doctors always comment WOW we don’t see how you are still here. They say if you write a book we would surely buy it . I always say because God has me here and I am here for a reason a purpose. That’s where my nickname Melonie the Miracle comes from because the Miracles that have been seen in my health and my life. I was told I wouldn’t see 30, then 40 and I’m now 43. Only God can make that happen. When I got Cancer I was at the top of transplant list and had to come off after waiting 10 + years. I have a complex medical history and want I want to get relisted but need extensive dental work and no where will even let me begin the process until dental needs are met. Financially for me at this time that is an issue, my husband and I are both disabled. He needs a double hip replacement( also a cancer survivor) and has dental needs as well. It’s been estimated to just to start my work it’s about $5000 not including any follow up needs. I will most likely need to list in other states as well which is a bridge I will cross at that time. I am grateful to be alive and every morning I open my eyes I thank God to be alive. I know I have a purpose on earth ..I’ve always helped people whenever I could from my job as a caseworker to helping people get medical and other needs met even now. Now I am in need of help. I always tell people my testimony every chance I get as encouragement, all things are possible. I have seen miracles happen , I am one. I tell people I am a Walking, talking, living , breathing MIRACLE. Can you help make another one possible?
