Thank you for taking the time to view this page! As you may or may not have been aware, my sister was diagnosed with an illness that can be classified as terminal. It is known as "Alpha 1 deficiency" and is pretty rare. Basically it causes an advanced stage of COPD in the persons that are effected by this diesease. Since the "trigger" that caused the condition to present itself and basically attack her lungs, she has quite literally been in a struggle for her life. More recently the Health care companies are starting to ration her oxygen. This restricts her ability to leave the house and to have a somewhat normal life. There is technology that is available that can liberate my sister from having to take tests that may result in her prematurely passing away or possibly causing brain damage, etc due to lack of oxygen. (The tests the healthcare companies are making her go through basically require that she goes off the oxygen for a period of time to "prove" that she needs it). At home she has a machine that makes oxygen (as long as it doesn't break down or something). They also have a portable version of this machine which would give her the freedom to leave the house for 6 hours or more without a single tank. (She wouldn't have to prove that she needs the oxygen to the healthcare company anymore). This machine is battery powered and is also easier to carry than the oxygen tanks as well. The down side is, the up front cost is over $2500 and isn't covered by insurance. We're asking for your help! My wife and I will be making a large donation to support this cause, but we can't do this alone. If you can find it in your hearts to please donate whatever you can. As the host I will collect the donations and we will purchase the machine. Also excess proceeds would go towards covering other medical expenses associated with this illness as well.
