Melissa is a beautiful single mom of 2 young boys, and she is fighting for her life. Melissa has the kind of smile that lights up a room and immediately turns every person into a friend. Her boys, Alexander, 9, and Dominic, 7, are the lights of her life. Melissa has a warmth about her that is truly undeniable. With all this beauty and love surrounding her, it seems impossible that, at just 43, she would be battling one of the ugliest, deadliest diseases. Melissa has ALS, also known as Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis or Lou Gehrig's disease. Her diagnosis came in October 2020 after months of unexplained weakness and many tests. Melissa has already lost her ability to stand and walk on her own.
While it has been helpful that she was able to move into a first-floor apartment, it is becoming increasingly difficult for her to care for herself and her boys without daily assistance. Activities that used to bring her joy, like playing sports with her boys and cooking delicious meals, are now all but impossible. You might think that with all these devastating changes, Melissa has lost hope. But that's not Melissa. She is still smiling that beautiful smile, loving fiercely and fighting this disease with all she's got.
But she needs us. All of us. Melissa's medical bills are mounting. Since preparing meals and keeping up with the house is difficult, her friends and family are doing their best to drop off food and clean. All that love her want her to worry about nothing more than her fight. We want to take away the stress of financial strain. That's where you come in.
We have a big goal to raise $50,000 for Melissa to assist with her care. With this money, she can continue to focus on staying as strong as she can, for as long as she can, so she can continue to make memories with her boys, her family and her friends.
