Please take a few minutes to read about an incredible short story of a short life…

She wakes up in the morning and all is well, her young husband and baby sleeping together while baby is putting his hand on his dad’s beard for security; baby knows he’s loved… its a perfect picture in her mind and it put’s smile on her face. The world is just like a dream, she says to herself, what a wonderful life… Young love, brand new baby, living in a house with family. Her younger sisters next door, they adore her and are happy to acknowledge her as their Ate’ (it means Big Sister in the Philippines – a title that she graciously accepts and plays role to) Mother in law is ready to take care of baby as she makes herself ready and prepares for a job she loves and dresses the part of an up and coming professional career woman.

Life …. Is Love for her right now. Everything is well, everything is balanced. She knows that her parents are proud of the woman she is, her protective and best friend brothers are always there for her at any given moment, she’s ready to tackle the day ahead of her. On her short walk, she simply feels happy. Then in one instant while walking towards her truck, she black’s out and finds herself on the ground with a big gash on her head. Realizing that she face-planted on the pavement, Melina calls for help and her sister and mother in law arrive to help and now she’s in the very last fight of her life. In the Emergency room her husband, mother and brothers are there trying to will her to live but they lose count after seven cardiac arrests as she continued to struggle into the mid afternoon. She fought and fought and fought like we knew she would but her fragile little body just couldn’t do it anymore. The autopsy did reveal that the medications pushed had eventually worked to clear the pulmonary embolism but it didn’t work in time, it was too late, if only she could have given it one more fight…

Melina Isabel Adriatico Torres died at 23 years old and left behind an adoring husband hopelessly in love with her, a 9 month baby boy that was the core of her life. Her precious baby boy who had not yet learned to say Mama; Imagine her baby boy looking for her while sleeping, hugging and tugging at where she use to be on her side of the bed. Now he will never know about the amazing woman his mom was, who lived for such a short period of time.

Melina had been the core of many people’s lives. She had many names in our community: Mia, Mina, Melina, Isabel, Ate’ (pronounced Ateh) or big sister, Little Sister, Baby Sister, Daughter, Niece, Granddaughter, Belly Bee, My Princess, Cuz, The Panda, Lilo, Beasty and so many other adoring nicknames that she kindly accepted.

She was an athlete, a woman wise in her years and patient too, a best friend, a competitor. As an athlete, she was short but on the field of any play – soccer, volleyball, basketball, she competed like she was a Giant and carried teams with composure and victory. It was her quiet strong and commendable personality which would draw people to her. She grew into woman hood, brought all those traits and embedded them into her own family and budding career. Her words to live by – “Family First” Melina touched so many lives and was truly the center of the world to very many of us.

Melina was our world, our center of our universe.

Regardless of any tragedy that life give’s us, we believe that God always has a plan for us. Life just started for Melina and she was headed in the right direction; it’s likely that she doesn’t have any life insurance to cover  costs of burial. Which nowadays accrue to more than the cost of a small car. We are trying to raise these funds before her burial, tentatively set up for 10 June, 2017. From our family to yours, we reach out to you…Please support this Go Fund Me account, all proceeds will go to the burial of our beloved Melina Isabel Adriatico Torres, final expenses will go to her loving husband Javier and any excess (if any) will go to a college fund for her son Jayden. Please help and we graciously Thank you in advance. Even if it’s your prayers for what we are all about to endure.
