Melba Needs a Liver Transplant

TO MY FRIENDS AND FAMILY:
This is a very difficult letter for me to write. I have always worked, sometimes two jobs, so I could take care of myself and my family. However, I now find myself in a difficult position where I am no longer physically able to work and find myself needing some help.
Around Christmastime, 2018, I became ill, thinking I only had a GI bug. After not feeling well for sometime, I saw my primary care physician and following some diagnostic tests, it was determined that I had a problem with my liver. And, over the last several months, I have had numerous labs, CT scans, endoscopies, heart tests, etc., and I now find myself in Liver Failure, needing a Liver Transplant.
I was referred to the Liver Transplant Team at the Medical College of South Carolina in Charleston, and was advised this week that I have been approved for a Liver Transplant (now on the official transplant list). My MUSC Liver Specialist was very optimistic and stated that he thought I would have a new liver within the next three months.
My Aunt, Helen Redd, has been taking me to all my appointments and is my caregiver and will stay with me through the surgery and recovery period. We are now overwhelmed since we have been told that we will need to stay in the Charleston area for one to three months following the surgery. This, of course, means we must find accommodations in the Charleston area at a great expense for that period of time, and during this time, we will still have the expense of maintaining our homes in North Augusta.
While I am blessed to have adequate insurance for this procedure, the cost being $500,000.00; many transplant expenses are surprisingly not covered, such as the anti-rejection medications that I will need to take for the life of my new liver. I have been told these medications will be very expensive.
I would greatly appreciate any monetary assistance you can give me at this time to help defray all the extra expenses for my Liver Transplant. At my appointment this week, the numbers showing the liver is failing more rapidly had increased from my last appointment. This is the reason my doctor anticipates finding a liver for me as soon as possible.
I am trusting the Great Physician to see me through this difficult time in my life. He saw this problem long before I knew it existed and I place my trust in Him.
