Helping Melanie & Olivia

PLEASE HELP MELANIE AND HER TWO-YEAR OLD OLIVIA GET SETTLED IN THEIR NEW APARTMENT.

I met Melanie through Ramon, my hard-working ONE BLOCK employee. They have been a couple since meeting in rehab last year and both were living in separate homeless shelters for the last 12+ months.

Melanie struggled most of her life with addition but has now been sober for 27 months. It took a year in a rehab to cement that sobriety. For the last year she has been trying to find subsidized housing that was safe and affordable. I am happy to say she has finally found a new apartment but she needs everything: a mattress, furniture, linens, cookware, etc.

Being homeless and trying so hard to pull your life together presents many hurdles and this is a big one. She was finally able to navigate NYC's very dysfunctional social services departments and the tight and expensive real estate market, but she does not have the money to furnish it so she can live there with her baby.

Her lease begins January 1st. The money raised will help us buy a mattress, used furniture, and everything she needs to be able to be settled by the new year.
