It is with great sadness that we share the tragic news that Melanie (Camire) Short passed away on Tuesday, November 29th. Those who got to know her over the years were very blessed to have been touched by the angel that she is now, and has always been. Her laugh, her sense of humor, her quick wit, her warm and enveloping smile electrified every room she entered. She will be missed by so many.
At just twenty years-old, Melanie was diagnosed with a rare form of kidney cancer and fought a long battle for almost 13 years. She survived so much and always thrived even after many surgeries and treatments. She endured procedure after procedure which included back surgery to remove a tumor in her spine, brain surgery to remove another tumor in her brain, and multiple radiation events. It’s unbelievable what she went through, and somehow, she did it with so much grace. She never gave up, and always lived life to the fullest. When she turned 30, instead of doing a 30th birthday party, she decided to do a “10-year beating cancer” party in Key West. Unless you knew she had cancer, you never would have guessed. She always said, “In any situation, things could be worse. They could be worse today, but every night before I go to bed, I tell myself ‘Nothing's over till I say it is!’” She never let her cancer define her, and her resilience and strength were truly an inspiration to everyone that knew her. Melanie is no longer with us on this earth, but she will never leave the memories of those she touched through her rich life.
Melanie’s husband, Scott, whom she just recently married in March of 2022, was the love of her life. Scott is left with a heavy financial burden as he continues to pay the out-of-pocket medical expenses and is now making funeral arrangements. Please join us in helping to raise funds to support Scott and honor the love of his life in the way she deserves. We are forever grateful for any support you may be able to provide.
“If there is a bright side to cancer, it’s that it can really reveal the true kindness and generosity of not only the people close to you, but of strangers.” - Melanie
