For years now, Megan has been battling an unknown sickness. She has had numerous surgeries, including the removal of a tumors from her liver, stomach, colon, esophagus, and thumb. She gets sugar-filled IV's every three days in order to have enough energy to function. Despite seeing nearly every specialist there is, no one can figure out what is wrong. The only thing that makes her feel better is Prednisone, but unfortunately she can't stay on it for long periods of time. Without it, she is in a lot of pain, and throws up everthing she tries to eat. Whatever is making Megan sick affects her GI system, joints and muscles, and her heart and lungs. Megan was unable to attend 99% of her Senior year of high school and was lucky that she was able to graduate. Megan loosk forward to the day when she can function normally and live the life that she so longs for! This is her chance to finally get the help that she needs and deserves. After appealing the Mayo Clinic's decision not to accept her for the past 3 years, Megan was finally accepted! She and her mom left today to make the 9 hour trip to Arizona.
Megan is a very social, happy person who will do anything for those around her. If you can give anything to this girl, I know her family will greatly appreciate it. Although their insurance will cover a large chunk of the expenses for this trip, they will still have to cover part of it. Her stay at the Mayo Clinic could range from 2 weeks to months, and the bills will just keep piling up. This is on top of the countless medical bills they already have. Megan's dad has worked every holiday for the last few months, including Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's, and Valentine's Day in order to make extra money for this trip to the Mayo Clinic. Not only is the expense for the clinic high, but they also have to pay for a hotel room, gas and food for an unknown amount of time.
