Meghan's Battle Fund

Hello family, friends, and all inbetweeners,

As most of you reading this already know, I am currently battling Stage 3 Breast Cancer (Invasive Ductal Carcinoma, or IDC). I was diagnosed on July 9th 2019, and it came as a total shock considering I just lost my Mom to breast cancer in August of 2018, AND that I am only 28 years old. It’s been one heck of a ride thus far, and for those of you new to my journey, please visit my Caring Bridge as it’s the place I’ve been journaling and detailing my treatments: https://www.caringbridge.org/visit/meghanmcdermott
Long story short, I’m about halfway through this journey (12 more weeks of chemo, followed by surgery, radiation and hormone treatments) and I’m still fighting the good fight!

I am here on GoFundMe now because even though my insurance is helping cover expenses, in-between co-pays on scans, procedures, consultations and appointments, and prescription medication costs, are adding up. I am currently on disability from my job and will only be making 60% of what I usually make until I am able to go back to work. I’m worried that being on a lowered salary until January [or later pending on how things progress] could effect my life long-term, like getting behind on  monthly bills & our new house mortgage. So, creating this GoFundMe made the most sense when it came to asking for help.

There was some debate about throwing a benefit party for me, but after thinking about it, I’ve decided that the best way to help is to donate to this fund. I came to this decision based on the fact that cold & flu season is upon us, so being around people could be dangerous for my health. Not to mention my energy levels are low and having random nausea is really hard to plan around. The donations you make will go directly to my medical bills and cost of living expenses instead of towards the costs of a party. Maybe we can throw a ‘I beat the beast’ party when I’m done and kick this cancer’s butt!

I also want you all to know that whatever amount I don’t need at the end of this journey, I will donate to the Angel Foundation; it’s an amazing Twin Cities-based foundation that helped Mama Jeanna when times got tough and truly saved our family from going underwater financially. The Angel Foundation helps so many people battling cancer (supporting both financially and emotionally) and focuses on keeping families afloat during hard times. It would be really special to me if I could help someone else’s family with whatever I can. Even if I use every dime you contribute now, I’ll still plan on donating when I'm able. Please check them out if you’re interested, too!

Thank you all so much for your continued support, encouragement, love, prayers, and well wishes! I am so incredibly lucky to be surrounded by such a large army of loving, sweet and kind people! Any contribution you make (or have already made) is greatly appreciated!! Your love and support is my determination to keep fighting every day and kick this beast’s butt!
