Megan's Fight Against Osteosarcoma
Don protégé
Megan Collins is a loving, caring 12-year-old whose sense of humor fills a room with laughter. She enjoys hanging out with her friends, playing soccer, lacrosse, swimming and going to the beach. Megan was excited to start the 7th grade at the Norwood Middle School this past September, when her world changed overnight.
Toward the end of the summer, Megan’s knee started to hurt at certain times throughout the day, and she developed a limp. Upon taking her to the doctor for an x-ray and expecting a sprain or torn ligament, her family was given the most unthinkable news! Megan was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma, a type of bone cancer that started around her knee and spread to her lungs.
Megan started treatment immediately which requires 30 weeks of chemotherapy and 3 different surgeries. Thankfully, she is receiving the very best treatment at Boston Children’s Hospital and Dana Farber/Jimmy Fund Clinic. While she is doing well thus far and continues to amaze us with her strength and determination, there is a long road ahead. Not only a long road until she is in remission but also for many years to come as she will need regular scans and medication to prevent and detect any relapses.
While insurance will cover many of the expensive medical costs
required to treat this awful disease, there are an untold amount of out-of-pocket costs. All donations will be used to cover these known (parking, meals, etc...) and unknown out-of-pocket medical expenses that Megan and her family will endure for years to come.
We truly appreciate your support and promise that 100% of any unused funds will be donated back to the Jimmy Fund or to another deserving family going through a tough time.
