Megan Handford's Medical Fund
Donation protected
On Sunday, March 25th, my beautiful neice Megan Handford was hit head-on by a drunk driver. By an absoulute miracle, Megan survived. However she suffered accute trauma and has so-far been through five surguries to repair her injuries. Her injuries include (on both the left and right sides): broken feet, ankles, femurs, arms, and her left clavical. She also had a small abdominal bleed. She will need future surgeries to take out any hardware that is bothering her (mostly, her clavical and screws in her patella (knee)). In 6 to 8 weeks, Megan will need a bone graft in her left femur and a possible knee replacement.
Megan is 19 years old and a full time student at Central Oregon Community College. To say the least, she has been through a great deal in her young life. In addition, Megan's mom, Kena, has to take six weeks off from work to be by her side and help her with her rehabilitation.
Due to the severe breaks in both of Megan's legs, she has to be non-weight bearing for up to 8 weeks, which means she will be in a wheel chair for that entire time. Adjustments need to be made to their house to get her in and out, and to be able to bathe her and take care of her basic needs.
Megan will also be looking at future surgeries and a lot of physical therapy.
Our family greatly and deeply appreciates any help given to make sure that Megan makes a full and healthy recovery and that Kena is able to support herself and Megan during this incredibly difficult time, since she is not able to work while Megan recovers.
We are so very grateful that Megan is alive and healing. It will be a long, long road with a great deal of future treatments. Thank you so very much, in advance, for your generosity.
