Dr. Audy Atay, originally from Venezuela, gave up his life to care for patients during the pandemic in Chile. While on the front lines, Audy contracted COVID-19, and after days of fighting for his life in hospitalization, on June 15th, 2020, Audy passed on to eternal life. Audy was the first foreign doctor to die in Chile from COVID-19.
In February 2018, Audy, his wife Brigit and son Fouad were forced to immigrate to Chile due to Venezuela’s economic crisis. Upon arrival to Chile, Audy began the long, painstaking process of validating and transferring his medical studies and licenses. After a tedious effort, Audy began practicing in Chile’s Worker's Medical Center and giving home consultations months before the start of the pandemic.
Audy was a noble, humble, true man of God; a loving father and husband. Audy leaves a legacy of faith, meekness and service for his family and loved ones.
This shocking grief has caused for wife Brigit and son Fouad to enter a financially vulnerable situation, as Audy was the main source of income for the family. We are praying for financial provision for the Atay family and trusting in God’s will and hand over this sudden grief.
Although the total amount of hospital care Audy received amounts to CLP 18,947,000 (equivalent to $23,000 USD), the copayment to be paid by Brigit is approximately $10,000 USD.
