On Saturday, September 29th Donielle Stephan, a Merritt Island High School athlete, was injured during a soccer game. She took a knee to the jaw that threw her head backward, then another to the left. Currently she is unable to move. Her sensory nerves are working so she can feel, but her motor nerves are not working and she can’t move. Reflexes in her arms and legs have been  diminished or absent. She is in a tremendous amount of pain. This girl is typically unstoppable. She not only plays soccer, but she’s also the kicker for the football team, and plays lacrosse. 

So far, her MRIs look clear so they are hoping just lots of inflammation that will get better over time.   A spine specialist will be coming in to determine more. 

This family has suffered much recently, as Donielle’s brother was injured in a motorcycle accident a few months ago and is paralyzed from the waist down. He’s living at home needing care and now Donielle is at a hospital two hours away. We are hoping if she has to stay they will transport her closer to home where family and friends have an easier time visiting her.  The family would be required to pay for that transportation, as it is not covered by insurance. If she does stay at the current hospital the family is separated as Donielle’s mother is driving back-and-forth daily so that she can help both of her children. 

Any funds raised will help with a possible transport to a closer hospital, for gas and food while the family is separated or any rehabilitation Donielle may need as she heals. 

This family, and particularly Donielle, has been active in our community. Let’s help them get their family healed and back together where they belong! We all know...every little bit will help!
