Medical Related Expenses for MaKenzie Cole

In July 2020, MaKenzie experienced a fainting episode, followed by chronic pain in her head.  After this incident, MaKenzie underwent testing and in September 2020, she was diagnosed with a tumor in the left side of her head.  She has undergone an MRI, CT scan with contrast, been to many medical appointments - including neurology, neurosurgery, and on November 4th was seen by a neurointerventional radiologist.  The tumor is believed to be an "intramuscluar venous malformation of the left temporalis muscle."  This is something the specialists believe she was born with, but is just now causing fainting/head pain, etc. because it has started growing since puberty/hormonal changes and is now pushing on the C1 nerve.  

On Friday, November 13th, MaKenzie will go in for a special type of MRI that will help to confirm the diagnosis and rule out cancer, etc.  Once the diagnosis is confirmed, she will be scheduled for surgery to remove the malformation.  

We have begun fundraising efforts because the insurance company is not covering many of MaKenzie's medical bills and are denying prior authorization requests for needed imaging of the area.  Additionally, her treatment team is in Ann Arbor at the University of Michigan - as this is a complex and very rare condition.  This has resulted in unexpected travel expenses (gas, food, overnight lodging) for the family.  All funds raised will be used for MaKenzie's medical expenses, recommended treatments that are not covered by insurance, and travel expenses.
