Have you ever heard of Granulomatosis with polyangiitis (GPA, formerly known as Wegener's disease)? I hadn't heard of it either, until my sister was recently diagnosed with it. GPA is a rare autoimmune disease, that only affects 1 in 30,000 people every year. This disease can affect many areas of the body and can cause organ failure and fatality, if not treated. In the 1950's this disease had an 80% fatality rate. Since then, there have been great leaps in treatment options available to people diagnose with GPA. However, these treatments don't come cheap, which is why we are reaching out to all our friends for help.
Bethany is an amazing human being. She has such a huge heart. She has a fantastic husband, Eric, and three little munchkins...Oriana is 5, Clive is 3 and Dinah is only about 4 months old. Bethany first started experiencing symptoms of GPA about two years ago, after transitioning from a full time working mother, to a full time stay-at-home mother. Over the past couple of years, her symptoms have increased and after two years of seeking out medical help and answers, she and Eric finally have some answers.
Now that they have a diagnosis, they have started meeting with doctors to try to identify the next step to take in treatment options. Bethany has undergone two surgeries since February and is needing to have a third to open up her airway so that she can breathe properly. Even though, Bethany and Eric have health coverage, they are still encountering some pretty steep out-of-pocket expenses. Also, in order to keep this disease in remission, Bethany has to have a very strict diet. In order to maintain this diet, she is needing to make some big changes to her kitchen to provide her with better food preparation space.
The money we are asking you to help us raise will help Bethany and Eric as they pursue the best treatment options they can find and helping them make the necessary changes to their lifestyle. We are so thankful for all of the people that have come along side of them during this difficult time.
Thanks for your support, friends!
