Medical Expenses For Tyrza
Don protégé
I have started this page in hope to raise money to help my sister shannen and her children. Shannen has 2 beautiful children Jayda 16 and Tyrza 14. Tyrza is a energetic beautiful healthy teenager just like any other child out there until Feb 19 when she became extremely sick. She was taken to BUH then later to RUH where it has been determined that Tyrza has a rare life threatening blood disorder called TTP. In TTP, blood clots form in small blood vessels throughout the body. The clots can limit or block the flow of oxygen-rich blood to the body's organs, such as the brain, kidneys, and heart. TTP (Thrombotic Thrombocytopenic Purpura) is so rare that only 3-4 people in a million will be diagnosed in a year, there is still very little information on this disorder.
It is now going on 4 weeks that Tyrza has been in the hospital with her mom Shannen by her side at all times in hopes that she gets better. Tyrza is now on steroids twice a day and her only treatment is plasmapheresis which does not have a set time frame for success. Jayda unfortunately cannot be with her mom and sister in this terrible time due to work and school. Times are getting harder as Shannen is unable to work full time in order to take care of her little girl, pay all the bills and still be able to travel back and forth for her children.
We do know that Shannen will be faced with follow up trips back and forth to saskatoon quite frequently if they do get to a point where Tyrza is released. There is no cure for TTP but they are hopeful that it will go into remission and she will be able to go back to work.
