Medical Expenses for Aprel & Jody Phillips

I am asking for donations big or small, to help with medical cost for Aprel & Jody Phillips.

Aprel was diagnosed with Myasthenia Gravis Disease earlier this year. It’s a condition that is caused by a breakdown in communication between the nerves and muscles. It can cause droopy eyelids & mouth, difficulty swallowing, unsteady walk, sore muscles and stiffness. The condition does not have a cure and will sometimes respond to some treatments.

Aprel has been taking medications to help with her symptoms, but with the advice from her doctors they decided to try a more aggressive treatment plan. On Monday, November 2nd, Aprel started her IVIG treatments at home. This treatment for Myasthenia Gravis was suppose to given 4 days in a row, every 4 weeks. They had hopes for this treatment to last for months and for it to help settle Aprel’s symptoms and help her regain her energy, so she could feel like her old self.

However, a few hours after Aprel’s first treatment, she started to have severe symptoms. She experienced chest pressure and could hardly breath and was extremely weak. Jody had to call an ambulance to rush her to the Northside hospital. Upon arrival they did a rapid Covid test on Aprel and said she tested positive. Apreyl was admitted into the hospital alone. Jody was not allowed to stay with her for Covid safety precautions. The doctors at Northside placed Aprel in the Covid unit and began to treat her for Covid. They got Aprel’s breathing under control. But the Neurologist advised Aprel to finish her IVIG treatments, even though they make her extremely sick. She spend 3 nights at Northside Hospital on the Covid floor fighting doctors & nurses to find the right treatment for her rare disease and to prove her symptoms weren’t covid related.

Aprel and Jody fought to get another 2 Covid test, since they believed she never had covid and asked to be moved to another floor. Apreyl passed both Covid test with a negative reading and was able to go home with Jody on Thursday November 5th.

By Thursday night Jody took Aprel to the Emergency Room at Tanner Villa Rica Hospital. Aprel had severe symptoms of chest pain and shortness of breath again. She was very close to being put on a ventilator several times due to rare side affects from her IVIG treatments or from the disease itself. They moved Aprel to own room at Tanner Villa Rica Hospital after a 30 hour stay in the ER because no rooms were available. She’s seeing a new neurologist to help manage her symptoms and start another treatment for Myasthenia Gravis. This treatment is an even more invasive & aggressive approach. Aprel will have a plasma exchange over the next 10 days to rid her body of autoantibodies that attack her muscles while at Tanner Hospital in Villa Rica. Fortunately, Aprel and Jody can be together at Tanner during this difficult time.

Please continue to pray for healing for Aprel and for her body to have a positive response to her plasma exchange  treatments. Aprel and Jody have 5 children and with the Holidays approaching, this situation brings up many hardships for the their family. Please donate money to help cover medical cost for Aprel and Jody.
