Medical Equipment For Evie!

Hi! My name is Heather and I am Evie's mom. To make a very long story short, Evie was born with spina bifida. She is now 8 years old and has had a total of 26 surgeries/procedures - she is one tough cookie! She was born with an incomplete spine and had her first surgeries at just 14 hours old. We are so extremely grateful for her medical team and all of the doctors, nurses, and therapists that have helped us along the way. Evie receives physical therapy both in school and outpatient in a hospital setting weekly. While she has worked her tail off to get where she is, she is still needing some extra help so that is why I have humbly made this fundraiser...for 2 things that will greatly improve the quality of life for Evie.

The first thing we'd like to be able to provide for Evie is called a HyperVibe. This is a vibration machine that gives low impact therapy. Studies have shown that children with spina bifida greatly benefit from this type of therapy and show significant improvement in motor function and walking speed. Children also showed improved muscle function and flexibility.

The second thing we would absolutely love to provide for Evie is a Trackz wheelchair. It is absolutely insane to me that insurance will not cover this type of chair. This wheelchair will allow Evie to be mobile in her wheelchair on all different types of terrain. She would be able to take this wheelchair on sand (we currently rent a very bulky beach wheelchair for her, which she has to rely on someone else pushing), she would be able to be pushed in races in this chair (think Pumpkin Run at her school!), and she will be able to navigate in gravel, grass, mulch, and snow - all terrains at her school which cause a great deal of difficulty for her currently. All I want as a mom for Evie is for her to be able to participate fully with her peers. For her mobility to not be the thing that is holding her back. I personally struggle to push her wheelchair across grass and can't even imagine taking it on a trip like camping. Evie deserves to have full access to her community and all it has to offer.

I have spent the last 7.5 years dedicated to providing assistance to other families with children born with spina bifida through our non-profit organization, Evie's Warriors, but this time it is Evie that is needing the help. I know I cannot provide these things for her on our own so I am hoping our community and family and friends will rally behind us and get this equipment for her.
