Travel and medical costs for Sophia

I first recognized things were not quite right with Sophia very early on in her infancy . However , babies often grow out of their delays and we hoped that would be the case for her . Sophia had repeated eye and hearing tests and started physiotherapy at 8months . After turning one , Sophia had genetic testing done as she was not growing out of her global delays . The results of her genetic testing revealed a very rare triplication on her 15th chromosome . This syndrome best understood as a version of dup 15q syndrome , which is linked with hypotonia , seizures and epilepsy , delayed development and in some cases intellectual impairment. This is a very rare disease that is closely linked to cause autism spectrum disorder . Our hearts were crushed as we learned that life for Sophia may be extremely challenging and potentially limited by this genetic disease . As her parents we will move mountains to give her the best possible life, we will break down all barriers to give her the help she deserves . Through this process we have faced long waitlist that are detrimental to her early intervention . Currently Sophia is acessing public services which are unfortunately infrequent due to high demand . In order to give her the proper services she needs , we decided to book Sophia for a private autism assessment as she would be waitlisted for over a year for public service . Once diagnosed Sophia will have access to a healthy funding amount to pursue early intervention therapies . The cost of this assessment is 3500$ plus 4 trips to the coast . Discovering your child has a disability is emotionally draining on its own , navigating a system for intervention has proven to be almost defeating but we have spent everyday breaking through waitlists and carving a path to help . She does not deserve to be waitlisted she deserves the early intervention that has been shown to drastically improve the quality of of life skills in toddlers . Sophia is unbelievably amazing , she is the sweetest little girl . My heart longs for her to be able to express herself in a meaningful way . She is tremendously proud of herself when she can balance , stand and take a few steps . It is so hard for her to do this , we can not wait to see how well she does with proper intervention .
